We've established that you must become more than a liner card reader if you are to survive in the PPM world.
We've talked about creating content, every break, that offers an emotional payoff to your listeners.
We've discussed the absolute necessity of an internal clock, of ruthless editing that cuts the superfluous and respects our listeners' valuable time by writing the payoff line of our content first ...and then finding the most direct and effective way to get to it.
We know that great talent is always looking for content ideas ... and accept that a literal world of content is now available to each of us on our computers.
And last week we talked about our listeners, the ones who call us every day, who visit us at every appearance, who play every game. We want to learn to see them with new eyes as the valued partners they truly are.
We want to expand that group of listeners with whom we interact and share -- and once again, computers and the very times we live in make this possible and easy, as never before.
If there is a human alive anywhere who hasn't heard of Facebook, they should win some sort of Nobel Award for Least Attentive. Social media is ubiquitous.
Sure, your station has a Facebook page, but do you have a personal one too?
And by personal, I mean personal-professional. This is a Facebook page devoted totally to sharing with your listeners, giving them peeks into your off-air life ... and taking an equal interest in their personal livesm too.
It takes time.
It takes commitment.
It takes someone who loves people. If you don't, you need to understand that your work does not end now when you walk out of the studio. Your work truly is full-time because mobile phone apps and social media allow your listeners to feel connected to you 24/7.
And the very best air talent are using these tools to bond even tighter to their P1s, the very listeners who have the mentality, the time, and the passion to make you #1 in your market.
If you don't have a personal social media strategy yet, I want to put you in touch with Steve Allan, a specialist in this field. What he can do will change your life, next week Swimming in the Talent Pool...
