“TV gives everyone an image, but Radio gives birth to a million images in a million brains.”
I don’t know who said that, but s/he was right!
“I was always fishing for something on the radio. Just like trains and bells, it was part of the soundtrack of my life.” That was Bob Dylan.
“Anytime in radio that you can reach somebody on an emotional level, you’re really connecting.” That was the late Casey Kasem.
How about this one: “Television contracts the imagination and Radio expands it.” That’s Sir Terry Wogan (and no, I don’t know who that is but I love his quote!)
We listen to radio as individuals, even within our cars, and even with another present.
TV demands attention for full appreciation, but Radio allows other activities whilst listening, acting more as a companion than a dictator forcing attention.
Radio, at its best creates an “…exclusive relationship with each listener, a one-to-one (personal) engagement with the listener. Radio programming and advertising forget this at their peril.”
You can hear examples of wonderful radio ads HERE.
I think I’d make it a mandatory assignment for every member of your staff, including you.
(My thanks to Steve Allan for sharing the link with me.
