"Kindness is one of the most undervalued commodities - which is too bad because it doesn't take much of it to turn the day around. I wonder if we overlook kindness because it's so simple."
"What's really involved? Someone needs something, we help. Someone feels low, we console. Someone trips, we catch them. There's a need, we respond. Then the other person is grateful and relieved - and we're happy knowing we could help."
"Kindness is a low-effort, high-return exchange."
~ Joan Duncan OliverRadio does a great job when it comes to disasters. We respond immediately.
But I think we're missing an opportunity to bond ever tighter with listeners by not responding more often to the smaller needs in our towns.
You could find someone in need of simple kindness every day if you wanted to, but that requires getting outside of your comfort zone.
It requires getting outside of your office, outside of your building, and actually interacting with the people in your town who have been overlooked by everyone else.
It requires the talent to find and tell those stories, within the time limits of your format, and then the effort to treat the people whose stories you're telling with kindness, the way you would want to be treated if you found yourself in their situation.
I know you're busy. I know you're already doing 5 jobs in the time allotted for 1, but if you make the time to do this, once a week, I am certain you will reap the rewards.
Not just in higher ratings, but in higher purpose, knowing you're doing something for someone who really needs the help.
If you're not sure how to start, call me, and we'll talk it through. I know it works, because I've done it--in more than one city.
