Just Because You Can

I read recently that inside some Qdoba outlets, there's a large TV that plays non-stop infomercials with a volume high enough to make ordinary conversation impossible.
I've flown several million miles on United Airlines since I began consulting. They keep changing their loyalty program so now if I don't book an expensive fare, I may be treated less generously. Seriously?
I've heard 17 units in one stopset on a major radio station in one of America's largest radio markets.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
If you make the act of eating in your restaurant unpleasant, I won't eat there.
If you make an implied threat, and I have a choice -- which I do -- the outcome will be anger, not compliance. I will now go out of my way to fly airlines other than United. Emirates international service is vastly superior.
Forget your listeners for a moment. If you felt a responsibility to do everything possible to help your clients succeed, would you put them in the middle of a 17-unit stop set?
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Perhaps you should print that in large, bold type and stick it over your office door this year ... not so much for you, but for your corporate visitors.
