Just The Facts, Please

Almost every time I meet someone, once they find out what I do, they express commiseration about the death of "old" media, especially radio and TV.
They remark about Pandora and smartphones and Netflix in empathy with how tough my job must be, how clearly the end is in sight and how desperate I must be feeling, trying to hang on another week or two.
And they are almost always insistently unbelieving when I give them actual facts.
They simply can't believe that the average American spends vastly more time watching their TV than their computer or smartphone screen.
That 97% of all video is viewed on a big screen, on a television, and not online.
That, in fact, less than half of one percent of videos are watched on a mobile phone.
That, in fact, viewing of live TV programming is increasing by more than an hour-and-a-half a month since 2012.
That, in fact, TV viewing and radio listening is at record high levels, everywhere.
So, if you're not telling the truth of your story, the "truth" they think they know is probably hurting your sales.
And that's just a fact.
