If You Want Your People To Think

Doesn't this feel like the way radio groups should run?
Don't you think most stations in most markets would actually sound better if they were run like this (and that necessarily assumes some of these groups would have to staff those stations which are run like automation devices now)?
I know it's counter-intuitive. That's why it feels right to me.
And those of you who know me, who've seen my psychological profile and my Myers-Briggs Indicators (INFP), are probably laughing because you know I can't help it.
It feels right to me!
We've been taught that leaders, great leaders, take control and that by doing so they attract followers when, in fact, this guy proved you have to give up control and that by doing so you create leaders.
And he did it in the toughest, most demanding crucible of all: the military.
The reason we haven't seen wonderful new formats and blasts of creativity out of the biggest consolidated groups is because they have done everything possible to smother an environment that encourages thinking.
The last thing they need is you thinking.
They think that will make their job harder because they assume you can't possibly have better ideas than they have. Right?
Until we have leaders secure enough to create an environment that encourages thinking and creativity and risk-taking and spends more time and personal effort on creating leaders than in creating bigger bonus checks, I can't see how things will improve.
Can you?
