Every effective communicator knows the value of silence, the pauses that draw us to pay even closer attention.
Today, we are bombarded with sound virtually 24 hours a day. Some of us even need it to sleep, so addicted are we to noise.
I have always believed that God speaks so softly because whispering, of necessity, draws us closer, to hear.
Silence, an almost uncomfortable pause, can be your friend on-air, for both the serious and the comedic. I always thought the late Paul Harvey used it as well as anyone ever heard.
It's all about pacing and timing, about drawing your listener closer, and the sooner you learn the skill, the more effective you will be.
