Many of you get it, so I apologize, but will someone explain to me why "some" radio programmers decided not to play Garth Brooks as an "event" this week???
The most successful artist in Country Music history comes out of retirement with no notice and it's not important enough to get right on it.
What does qualify in that category? I think if Johnny Cash came back from the dead tonight and sang "Folsom Prison Blues," the same people would just keep playing Rascal Flatts in regular rotation.
I'm not going to waste ink or time trying to explain to the infirmed the basic tenants of show business.
Listen to Nashville's KDF or Kat Country in Charlotte or any number of others who knew how to hype that song and build interest. Missed opportunity. Same dead-ass sounding canned radio. So disappointing.
Keith Urban has a vocal blow out and is on mandatory vocal rest. Gretchen is on voluntary vocal rest and Loretta Lynn has cancelled dates due to either a broken foot, hypertension, or both.
In the beginning there was WSM. Celebrated its 80th birthday with a party at its historic transmitter site in Brentwood, Tennessee. Great fun with everyone from Eddy Arnold to Ralph Emery dropping by. Check www.wsmonline.com for the history if you don't already know it. Literally, everyone and everything in important Country Music history has come from that 800 foot tower in that Tennessee cow pasture.
The WSM Barn Dance (now known has the WSM Grand Old Opry) celebrates its 80th birthday this week with a big cast in for the October 15th show. Red carpet and the works for that one.
ASCAP awards on October 17th at the Ryman is a bigger-than-usual event for that group.
Wynonna is now on the NY Times Best Seller list and again reminded me this week what a bright light she is. You can NOT be sad in the presence of that powerful personality. She missed her calling to be a preacher. I guess she does preach through her music.
Josh Gracin officially got his first Gold Record this week. Very nice, classy guy. Very hot video out right now, too.
Speaking of videos, seen Tim and Faith's new one? Pretty good!!
If you are looking for a nice weekend go to Austin, TX. The food and music are consistent and you will gain 10 pounds! The Broken Spoke is a classic dance hall with a lot of history and a good chicken fried steak. Go to Austin and get a real Country fix.
The bank of Toby and Barry. Every time you watch a football game in texas, Toby Keith pops up selling Ford trucks. This guy is making some dough and now wants to own a bank. Hoo-rah.
The new Martina is Fire. The Redneck Woman is number one at pop and country. Tim is playing the Hollywood Bowl this weekend.
Fall is here with 50 degree Nashville temperatures. The year's end is coming very quickly. Still a whole lot of news to come.
25 dollars for a 5-6 cd box set of Garth? Only at Wal-Mart. It will be a big deal.
In the era of iPods, Napster, CMT, and satellite radio, how can terrestrial radio be saved with nitwits manning the controls at so many stations? Consulted into oblivion by folks who don't have a clue. Find some passion nitwits, and get back in the game. Excite your audience or go work the check-out counter at Wal-Mart and process the Garth box set!
