Like something straight out of Candid Camera, Little Richard drives up into the BMI parking lot on Music Row in full makeup/clothes, driving himself in a SUV and wanting to know where to park! Surreal!!
CMA is on the horizon. How is anyone going to afford this adventure? A budget blower for sure!
Craig Morgan is getting a lot of face time on TV and music on radio finally. He's on Three Wishes with Amy Grant October 26, when the show moves from Friday to Wednesday.
Martina is all over TV and even got a full hour of the Opry on Saturday. Kenny's all over ABC in November, pushing his TV special and new CD.
Sugarland is a breakout act, and we'll shall see if that fact is recognized on the CMA's in a few weeks.
Charlie Daniels got a lifetime achievement award this week from BMI and Chesney will be honored at ASCAP as the awards for Fall start coming. "Live Like You Were Dying" is wrapping up its year-long award show run at BMI.
Gary Allan showing up at #1 on the Country CD charts first week out surprised some. He is solid as a rock and his music has depth. Slow week in sales overall, but a win is a win.
Ever gone to www.charitybuzz.com? An amazing website for big buck glamorous charity auctions. Regular old Ebay had the Hank Jr. guitar and some of his hurricane donations this week.
Speaking of Junior, saw Merle Kilgore's widow and son this week and we talked about Hank but we didn't talk about Hank III. Or Sheldon. Hank III launched out in the Orlando newspaper this week on Shooter Jennings and Big & Rich. Called the latter a coked-up joke. Whoa … What is this guy's deal? "Country Punk: Hank Williams III" was the headline in the Orlando Sentinel if you want to check it out. Hank III isn't politically correct it seems, and that's refreshing. Still, John and Kenny should have unprintable reactions to the other statement Hank made that they are one hit wonders.
The film "Dreamer," which opens this weekend, is a good family outing movie. Kris Kristofferson plays the granddad to the very talented Dakota Fanning.
Keith Urban is wrapping up in Europe, and The Independent gave his show an interesting review, describing Keith as something of a hunk ("With his floppy blond hair, androgynous good looks and tight jeans … screaming women when he flexes his beefy biceps").
Aaron Tippin talked this week about going to the Middle East again for Thanksgiving. Says the first trip changed his life. Very emotional adventure, and one that you never stop talking about. Maybe he won't have to go next year!
