When stepping back and trying to think of who shined at CRS, the number one person came to the top quickly: Keith Urban.
Enough has been said, but this guy is at the very top of his game. He proved it again when he sang a duet with Dolly Parton opening night. He is amazing. Dolly is an American original.
Plus, Kenny Rogers at CRS was much as The Real Thing as Coca Cola.
Congratulations to Capitol Records and Keith for hanging in there while the rest of us caught up.
Talked to a Hollywood source this week and Keith is still up for a movie. The folks in Hollywood are just trying to get the right material. The fact that Nicole is now on the scene will only assure that Keith will get something very good. She's a producer and actress and knows what she's doing, so let's see if she gets involved or just advises on a movie career. I think the brains would have liked a new film and new CD to come out at once near the end of 2006. The new music will happen, but the new movie will not! But the big shots still want it, so we shall see what happens.
In the meantime, the Toby Keith film is making its way through the test screening phase. The film was show last week and not everyone loved it. Right now the film is over 2 hours, so it will be cut down, but my spies were not overwhelmed. My spy did say Toby wasn't a bad actor, but he's playing a country singer. There's lots of polishing to go, so let's hope they make something good out of it for all of country music's sake.
Tim McGraw's film FLICKA now has a trailer on the internet. He looks great again, just as he did in the Friday Night Lights film. It's a strong preview with the young lady in the lead carrying most of the water. Tim's a dad, but they play a song and he gets to be mad again. Tim is good mad! Tim, just don't get mad at me. The film shows up in July while Tim and Faith are on tour.
There will be more CRS reflections in a few days, but here's a big get well to Jeff Bates. We hear Jeff fell outside the Convention center and broke his tailbone. The new CD is out April 11 so let's hope Jeff gets well soon and the break isn't real bad. I hear that's a nasty injury!
From my medical book for you RCA folks:
An injured tailbone needs time to heal. A bruised tailbone may take several days to several weeks to completely heal. A fractured tailbone takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal. In either case, people sometimes have pain for a long time. While your tailbone injury is healing it is very important to use a doughnut cushion when you are sitting. A doughnut cushion may be purchased at a medical supply house or you may use a child's swimming inner tube. You should place an ice pack on your tailbone for 20 to 30 minutes every 3 to 4 hours for 2 to 3 days or until the pain goes away. Your health care provider may prescribe an anti-inflammatory or pain medicines. It is important to avoid constipation while your tailbone is healing. Drink plenty of fluids and increase the amount of fiber in your diet.
Good luck Jeff! I am not a doctor, I just have to play one on TV sometimes.
