Spring Break Chill

Other than Hank Williams, Jr. getting into some problems in Memphis, this has been a rather blah, chilly week in Music City.
Now Junior did say he was just "hugging" that waitress and didn't cuss or try to kiss her. The Peabody is quiet and the waitress can't be found. So the story should be done. Key words here are "should be."
Lots of new music coming down the pipeline, so expect the TV screens in many dayparts to be in Nashville plug mode.
Tim McGraw has a new greatest hits CD out on March 28th, and he will have his NBC special the first week in April. Rascal Flatts' new CD is out the first week in April, and they will hit GMA and Leno, among others. Phil Vassar has Nashville Star, were he is a judge, to plug his new CD out in May.
If you don't know Cindy Walker, you have missed a lot of music. Cindy died this week in Texas. Call up the list of songs she wrote in the 50's, 60's and 70's. My favorite was not her biggest hit -- "In the Misty Moonlight," by Jerry Wallace. What a master songwriter. So many great songs. A CD full of her songs was just released by Willie Nelson, too. She was 87 and a 9-year member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Bill Ray Cyrus's daughter, Miley, is on the Disney Channel now with a series. Bill is on it, too. Here's a guy who was never treated right by Music Row snobs. That first song Achey Breaky was a novelty song and Billy was never taken that seriously. He's a good guy and a fun entertainer. There was a time in Nashville when you could put out a fun song, sell a few million singles, and smile all the way to the bank. Are we better off now that those days are over? "Honky Tonk Badakadonk" falls into that category, so at least some songwriters and labels can see how much money can be made with a sense of humor.
Speaking of that, Hollywood has no idea what to think of Larry the Cable Guy. 1710 screens over the weekend showing his new film. Hollywood has one thing in mind and that's the bottom line. Godzilla, Larry the Cable Guy … who cares, just show me the money. Dan Whitney, aka Larry, is a great soul in the same school as Billy Ray. People working with him all sing the same song … he's very nice, polite and helpful. Good for Larry and all the millions he's seen in the last 2 years.
Radio is kind of quiet right now. Satellite radio, too. You wonder what's going on in those conference rooms.
