KZLA goes bye-bye!!! Was that a shock? Was to me.
Think about it, though. You get a chance to get Rick Dees for your morning anchor, he's not going to wear a cowboy hat. You give him some hip music and you are off to the rating races. Remember, Howard Stern owned the place and he's gone. Vacuum's are usually filled. Instant name and brand. Bingo. On the eve of Tim and Faith's Los Angeles shows too! Ouch! Someone like CC will put the format back on but we are talking a major rebuild. Audience gets lost. It's ugly. NYC, SF and now LA. It's just not a doll in these Urban going Spanish fast cities. Checked the Top Five stations in Houston lately????
Crazy week now even more. And here I though Troy Gentry and the alleged murder of Cubby the Bear was an odd story.
By now you have heard or seen the Feds arresting Troy Gentry for claiming a bear was killed in the wild when it was shot on a game reserve within several acres of fence. The story is more of a PR disaster than anything that will see Troy in Leavenworth. Or Club Fed.
Some folks don't like hunting. You never kill something with a NAME for God's sake. "Cubby the bear" sounds like a children's pet! Unsportsmanlike conduct is what some say. Hunters are mad since people paint things with a wide brush. It's bad no matter how it's spun. You can beat the rap but not the ride. Another cliché': You Can't Un-ring a Bell. Nice guys, stupid move! I bet Eddie is PISSED!
Divorce. Now it's Darryl Worley. A few weeks ago it was Blake Shelton. Not a good year for marriage unless you are Kid Rock who just got married again to Pam Anderson on stage at Tootsie's. Kris wrote help me make it through the night there I think. How appropriate.
Lon Helton leaving Radio and Records. I guess another victim of consolidation. Successor Wade Jessen is one of my most favorite people in Nashville, so good luck Wade. Lon can always go back to LA and start with NEW KZLA!
Heard the new Keith Urban single? Sounds like it should be on the WB as a theme for a Dawson's Creek like TV show.
Finally saw the Tim and Faith, Soul to Soul tour. The show was in San Jose. I was impressed!! Staging, sound, everything. I stayed impressed at them. Backstage they are stars but still seem like the same folks I met in the early 90's. Just richer and more famous. I am proud of them and happy for their almost 10 year anniversary. Tim just shot two lines in a movie called The Kingdom. Directed by his Friday Night Lights director Peter Berg.
For you tour people, this security thing at venues is awful. The Tim and Faith show got underway 45 minutes late. Everyone these days is a bomber. The world is insane. I guess we get used to it.
KZLA gone. It was never really an LA County thing anyway, really. The audience mostly lived near Disneyland. Whatever they do, better make sure Orange County gets the biggest taste! I like Rick Dees. Good Luck. Country will rise again and maybe very soon ... before this ink dries, in fact.
