I Did Not Write The Ny Times Story

But I could have without being a psychic. You have got to look it up. Find it on The Drudge Report or the NY Times site (story is entitled "Changing Its Tune" and it's written by Richard Silos).
It basically says radio is dying again. It can be saved again, but it will be people not equipment that's going to do it.
Have you ever asked a bunch of college kids if they would like to be in radio? It's nowhere on their radar ... they don't even listen much anymore.
I have said it here a hundred times: Today's radio owners have killed off the industry a little at a time over several decades.
The jukebox approach was a flawed one. A better jukebox came along, and it's called the iPod (or XM). What most never and still don't get is that people tune in on the biggest shows to hear people TALK! From Arthur Godfrey in the 50's to Howard Stern and Don Imus and in the day to Larry King and in Country Ralph Emery, Charlie Douglas and the greats like Bill Mack. Alan Freed, Larry Lujack, The Real Don Steele, Robert W Morgan. You tuned in to hear the music, but everyone has the music (you even had some of it at home), you listened to those guys to hear what was going on.
These stupid accountant bastards have ruined every business they have gotten their hands on. Sales people need to sell and shut the hell up.
Growing talent is what radio did. Many went on to TV ( thanks radio everyday!), but sales thugs and bean counters hate talent payroll. They don't get because they've never done it!
Add to it a bunch of no-knowing, liner card reading, couldn't hear a hit if it fell on them consultants that are spewing out the same old crap in new boxes. The basics NEVER change. NEVER. Grow talent. Let them talk. Have show elements that add something. Build a family, etc.
How loud can you scream? Well maybe not loud enough. How do you get the cool factor back? With cool people, morons. Putting out another jukebox like HD is stupid without the big guns to be the ring masters. Interaction with the audience. People are starving for interaction (see MYSPACE, YOUTUBE, etc.). Wake up you bunch of impotent fools. I love radio for 5 hours every day talking to great morning shows from Colorado Springs to Charlotte from Tampa to Atlanta and Nashville. Radio is great when you let good folks do what they get paid to do. Tinker and screw around and you get what's happening on Wall Street now.
Years of neglect and big groups robbing these former family stations blind and you get TODAY. It's a crime.
People still need radio or something like it. You just can't do it with kids and cheap talent.
Read the article in the NY Time. Give it to anyone who cares, and start fixing the problem. Scared people might find the light!
On Music Row right now ... Fall got busy fast. Barbara Mandrell is meeting press for first time in years. George Jones had a 75th birthday party. The great Symphony Hall opened and it was all the hype said it would be and more. I'm told Garth got tears. Ahhh, CMA tickets are on sale now. Come on down!!!!! Fall is the best time of the year here!
