You remember earlier this year when the "memorable" song, "It's Hard Out There For A Pimp," won an Academy Award?
Yes, that did set back the Oscars to the Rob Lowe dance with Snow White, but the most widely-seen TV show in the WORLD may get a second chance to save itself next year when we might see Tim McGraw get a nomination ... and then, who knows?
Hollywood has done a HORRIBLE job interfacing with the music industry lately. Man, there used to be hits falling out of the films, but as we've seen pop music die, so have the hit movie songs. Modern pop music is awful, and no self-respecting Hollywood person listens to it much less thinks creatively with it.
Enter Tim McGraw in a remake of a family film about a horse, the old West and, now, a young girl (before my time, I hear the lead was a guy, Roddy McDowell ... yeah, I do sort of remember that). Tim and others have some well placed music in the very nice family film, "Flicka." The films opens October 20. If things go well, the song will keep getting attention via both Country radio and the film. Fox loves the song and will push it for the many award shows just around the corner. With little competition and a decent campaign, this plan should get Tim to the red carpets. The prestige and publicity this would give is incalculable. I know I will do everything I can to get it a BFCA nomination (Broadcast Film Critics), and that show has been a good predictor of what happens at the Golden Globes then Oscars.
Movies can be a great thing for the music business. Check out the year's number one CD, because I think it's going to end up being High School Musical. It's surely the most profitable CD. Disney hit a platinum mine on that project. Don't even get me started about that the sequels and stage productions coming ...
The Toby film? Well, may it rest in peace!
Movies equal major career steps if you can just make it happen. Tim has been VERY smart at choosing the right steps to take and doing each move with caution and extra care. It's not easy. It's a lot easier to screw it up than make it. Flicka is a very nice NON-animated family film. It should find a home in the marketplace.
I'm glad Jimmy Buffett got his blog out per his website on the ecstasy pills thing in France. Buffett is telling the truth. The PR part of this was handled POORLY and the French are a bunch of weasels!
The Nashville Star auditions in Nashville were HUGE. Now, they just have to get the ratings up, and maybe they will in 2007.
Sara and the dancing show ... what can be said? She's still in, but she looks worn out. I hope she's hanging in there. I bet she will have some real stories on this experience.
The Worley song is onward and upward. Like the promo man says, play it once, open the phone lines and throw it in the garbage if it stiffs ... it won't!
Still trying to decide if I like the new Buffett song, "Bama Breeze." Hmmm ... I know I like the Worley song.
Oh, make sure you play the "Jingle Bell" cut from Brad Paisley's Christmas CD.
