Are you watching the records fall as Billy Ray Cyrus' 14-year-old daughter Miley makes history? She just beat Elvis and George Strait, and Beyonce's 73,000 couldn't match her 75,000 screaming fans in Houston. And Miley's never had a hit record!
Too bad that Music Row never treated Billy right! His daughter is Shania huge and even bigger in the famous department.
NO ONE of late has a hit TV show in 60 countries from the U.S. to Saudi Arabia, from Europe to South America. Her "Hannah Montana" CD sold 2 million, and she has her own Miley CD on the way.
Miley's rocking and living in L.A. now with dad instead of Carrie Underwooding and living where the Cyrus family used to in Williamson County, south of Nashville.
"Achy Breaky" was no more dumb than "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "Indian Outlaw." So what? It seems in the snob world, fun songs are not critical favorites and making money from 9 million or more sales is not chic. Billy Ray, good for you and your daughter! And now he's reinventing himself on "Dancing With The Stars." More lives than three cats!
Dolly Parton wants a hit song on Country radio again, and I hope she gets one in 2007. Dolly is right now in Europe working a sold-out tour. Nashville has no amphitheatre/Shed, so pretty much no concerts this summer. This works in great favor of the CMA Music Festival, a.k.a. Fan Fair. Lots of stars in that 70-hour sweat machine. Check it out online -- it's an impressive lineup. Just sad that the fans never get that close to the stars of today. A few times, but much more rare.
Willie Nelson is starting his own record label with good guy James Stroud formerly of Dreamworks fame. It's a long list of stars heading in that direction. The music business is a work in progress.
Satellite radio, Internet radio, HD Radio, downloading -- it's enough to make your head spin.
Is "American Idol" that boring this year, or is it just tired? Maybe it was always this way and people are just watching more closely. This year's crop is much more William Hung than Kelly Clarkson.
Off to Miami, the Country music capital of South Florida. Couldn't there be anything more alien than Nashville is to Dade County Florida?
Spring Break time -- all flights sold out on Southwest from Nashville to Florida. Amazing. First-class seat available on American for $600 each way. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
