Country music sales are off right at 30%, with the industry average at 15%. Now, you would think the label folks would be jumping into the Cumberland River, and they just might in January, but it's not January yet!
Look at all the big names coming out with music in the next six months: Rascal Flatts, Chesney, Carrie Underwood and maybe Garth, just to name four. It's going to level out.
Digital downloads are up in Country as they are in overall music. That's hardly shocking. Miley Cyrus only selling 250,000 first week was a little surprising, if that is now the high-water mark for a large release.
Jamie O'Neal losing her Capitol Records deal and Terri Clark having her CD release delayed six months is not a good thing. Jennifer with Sugarland canceled the week with throat issues.
Boots Randolph was a huge part of the '60s recording scene in Nashville. "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" featured his horn, as did "Return to Sender" and "Pretty Woman." He was 80.
Have you changed cell carriers lately? Buying a car is less stressful!
Live Earth this weekend, all over NBC channels and later on MSN for anytime viewing. Urban is the only Country star involved.
On a totally unrelated note: Go to www.wls.com's history section and watch the video of its Memorial Day Weekend "old jocks come back" party. For the radio folks who grew up trying to be like some of those guys, it was a nice flashback.
Tours are busy, with Clint Black hitting the road in August until almost Christmas. Very busy with new music coming too.
Lee Greenwood is working this week on an immigration-themed song that he may unveil at the Sean Hannity Freedom concert series beginning in Atlanta this week.
These reviewers for music this summer have no clue about modern country music. They are so confused going to a country show and hearing AC/DC or Guns 'N Roses. Sometimes I am too!
Anyone heard a great song on the radio lately? I haven't. Some OK things, but many sure sound formula and not anything we will be hearing as great oldies in 10 years. Not sure why, but it's probably the Republicans.
Scooter Libby in A&R. Maybe it's the can't-shoot-straight Democrats. Somebody has got to come in and save us from all these politicians!
It's 116 degrees with 3% humidity in Vegas today. Now that Al Gore has some tie-in power with Mother Nature!
