Revisiting Planet Garth

The Garth Radio Seminar is coming to Nashville just as the Presley fans in Memphis are wrapping up "Dead Elvis" week. Two icons with strong fan bases and two very different careers. No one is Elvis, but no one in Country was ever really quite like Garth.
He has been low and lower profile, living outside Tulsa this decade - married, happy and maybe a little more ready to re-enter the spotlight. The music police here say he is coming out with a greatest hits package, but it will contain four new songs. All this hoopla over four songs with one a remake of a Huey Lewis song?
If you stop and think, look at how much the business and media has changed post-Garth. The Internet has exploded; who would have foreseen Kenny Chesney as the one to fill the same stadiums Garth filled? The youth factor of Carrie and Taylor and the pin-up boy factor of Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts. Some images like Tim and Trace and George remain, but little else.
Garth really did step outside the public eye. Elvis kept those movies in play so the public would never forget the "King." Then he hit Vegas and away we went again.
For Garth, if the new music is there and we assume it is, what will happen? Never bet against Garth. Still, the rules have changed some and so has the public's taste buds. If anyone can refit the ship and sail again, it's Mr. Brooks. I hope he does come out and play -- and not just record. Who knows, maybe not even Garth can predict the future.
Earth Gone Wild. Again.
Has this been the craziest week with everything from Tim getting his crotch grabbed twice to Faith singing while scolding the crotch-grabber? Tanya goes on a "U-Haul across Americ"a tour -- and her former lover steals her stuff and gets arrested in Vegas. Full moon to begin the week, then the Minnesota bridge falls down and Russia puts dibs on the North Pole. Just plain weird!
