Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
It's CMA Awards week. You almost feel that Miranda has been pre-crowned the big winner. All the trains have come into the station at the perfect time for her. Miranda's critical response and wide fan base equals winner! Lady A and Sugarland will see the media room, too. I have my fingers crossed for BP.
What great news on the CD sales front, too! Taylor, Jason, Sugarland and more. Impressive numbers and great positive news. The Taylor million sales numbers and Billboard Hot 100 airplays are simply crazy.
It is so nice to see all this positive Nashville news. But it gets better actually.
I can't review the film yet, but I feel I can say that the movie "Country Strong" is first-class. This is not some half-ass made-for-Country audiences by a Country TV network production. This movie has depth. From its script to the music. The music out of context is okay. When you hear it with the source, it's so much better. There has to be a hit song in there somewhere.
Make a date to see this film when it comes out. (late Dec./Early Jan.) A MUST-see ... it was so much better than I was prepared for. Talking to the stars next week with more to come. Loved it!
The Robin Roberts hour was first-class. They crammed a lot into the 57 minutes. Brad, Ms. Rimes, Miranda all had a good feeling. Carrie's part seemed fast in and out. Kellie P got a lot of time considering. Why is she not a bigger star on the radio? Great singer and a wonderful personality.
The tabloid stories on Ms. Rimes and the Cyrus family are raging. With an engagement now, maybe the Rimes story will calm down. The whole outrage on her seems based in hypocrisy. Many big stars in Country and Hollywood have done the same thing without repercussion. Something about Ms. Rimes just pushes people's buttons.
The Cyrus family destruction is another thing altogether. DIVORCE and Miley's bad press. In my dealings, Billy Ray has only been a solid guy. A sweet soul. It's a shame he has to go through the domestic junk. It's a shame to how Miley's superstar career has been mishandled in so many ways. Not sure who you blame for that.
How about that first week from Jason Aldean? 200,000? Pretty good for someone not in the top 5 CMA male vocal nominees. Crazy politics I will never understand. Jason is a star!
Sure seems to be a lack of buzz on this new award show around the corner in Vegas. The ACAs. Maybe the CMAs have to move over first, but that show has some mountain climbing to do.
Happy birthday to a few: Asleep at the Wheel at 40. Ray and the gang ... Country perfection. The real deals!
At 50, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. The only real movie set-looking bar in Nashville. What a tight, historic little corner of the Country world.
Early Christmas present: "Sign of Life" by Hilary Williams (Hank Jr's daughter). She survived a horrible accident; she has been through a lot ... Hope her book does well.
Kenny Chesney back on the road. Big stadium tour in 2011. Co-headliner status is interesting. This Zac Brown Band sure has gone from nowhere to somewhere quickly. Everything goes up and goes down at the speed of light these days.
And since this good news week, it is so sweet to see Loretta Lynn getting the recognition she so deserves. New CD with an all-star cast this week. Even a CMA tribute.
The CMA show will have its ABC touches, but hopefully will be ratings platinum. It should; competition on Wednesday night seems weak.
Not much left of 2010. Music Row survived the year with a fantastic finish. Now on to 2011. Let's hope the labels can break some new stars while growing the current ones.
Again ... so impressed with so much about Country Strong. Classy! A real movie! Hope it has some award show reach so it can find the audiences outside the Country core.
