Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Charity begins at home ... If Nashville does nothing else well, it does a collective great job and sharing its fortune.
The upcoming online auction of flood-damaged guitars is a great example. These damaged musical instruments will raise many thousands for artists who didn't have flood insurance.
The floods of 2010 destroyed more valuable musical instruments than even bombings in World War II!
The famous, well-worn guitars of Peter Frampton, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill and more can't be saved, so they will live on .
The Frampton guitars for sure should go for a nice sum. PF model #190 and #192 special river-soaked Les Pauls. Still beautiful and will look great on a wall some place.
Keith Urban's name comes up on several charitable lists. The All For The Hall concert October 5th tickets are going on sale and will bring in needed money for the Country Music Hall of Fame.
You can win a new ZR1 Corvette by helping out the kidswishnetwork.org; buy tickets and they will draw for two Corvettes! Brad Paisley is involved in this worthy cause.
The actual web address to play this game... www.kidswishnetwork.org/winthevettes.
Willie Nelson's list of charity work is as long as your arm. Coming soon, Sept 27th at the Hustler Casino in Los Angeles, is Willie & Woody's All-Star Texas Hold' Em Charity Tournament. Proceeds go to the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance. Something for everyone with Country music charities and fund raising.
Craig Morgan is about to go back to the Middle East to entertain the troops. His 8th or 9th trip. Saluteeeeeeeeee.
I could go on for a very long time. Bottom line: Charity begins at home and if everyone outside Country did as good as this world, it would be a better world.
Bad publicity ... there is some of that, too. Within the Country music world there is a lack of paparazzi and a little bit of tabloid. Tammy was always a tabloid subject, Dolly, too. A little is probably a good thing. Probably.
How about the case of LeAnn Rimes? A messy affair and a divorce. Moving in with her lover, who dumped his wife for LeAnn. Tabloid supreme. Add social media and it has become an image issue for Ms Rimes. She attacks it all with vigor. She is strong and keeps her foot on the gas pedal. Still, her image may have become a real problem. Nothing that a hit record won't cure. I wish her luck.
The Judds: That Oprah hour was something. Wynonna has a big heart that often gets broken. Oprah and Wy have a sister-like relationship and it was powerful TV. Add Mama Judd to the mix and you again have tabloid SUPREME! Their reunion tour is coming and we shall see what all this TV and ink get them. They are very lovable in real life. Always liked both gals. They do have more drama than 20 years' worth of Days of Our Lives.
Last case of publicity is Ms Swift. That VMA performance got a ton of ink and commentary. Google and see for yourself. She has a new CD coming and if it's publicity she wants, it's publicity she gets. Can teen idols grow up? It is so hard. Almost never happens. If anyone can do it, Taylor can. In the mean time, is she making all these decisions? Singing a veiled song about Kanye? Yuk ... Not finishing this affair with a hug at the end of the show? Who knows? The publicity for her night did not feel positive.
I can not read how the radio bosses at Country feel about her music. It feels like Garth Brooks backlash. Insane, but maybe the audience has given feedback on their mood. Not sure. But a lot is riding on these decisions. Worldwide fame she has and just simply from a big picture, she may be bulletproof for now. In the format, I am not so sure. I wish her well. Uncharted territory can lead to getting lost. Find a map. It won't hurt sometimes to ask for directions. Call Reba if you haven't already, Taylor ... Call Barbara Mandrel l... Call Tanya ... call your sisters. I bet they will help show you the way. If not, I would be very, very surprised. Only a man never asks for directions!
Congrat to Dierks for his ASCAP win. He's worked very hard....
And is there anyone nicer than Darius Rucker? Paid my $1.29 for iTunes Comeback song ... at doesn't happen very often...
Jamey Johnson may be the world's most Country singer! Will radio know what to do with him in the land of Country music today? That is one rich album!
Lots to be happy about in Music City tonight. Promising time ... some rocky times the last 18 months. Many more puzzles to solve before most can rest.
