Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Just watched Lady Antebellum on "Good Morning America" and right before that Little Big Town on "Fox & Friends." Both technically sounded fantastic! Not always the case on live TV ... both were outdoors, too!
The Country music world right now is sooooooooo filled with talented new acts. I'm listening to Zac Brown sing "Chicken Fried" on my iPad right this second ... via the WSMONLINE iPad application. Sounds great and the app loaded very fast.
These are such unusual times. On one hand, the economy seems to be taking a nosedive off the shallow end of the pool. BlockBuster is about to go bankrupt because people aren't doing that like they used to. Redbox and on-demand are the new flavors.
You have to stay up with all these technologies, but it's impossible. Anyone jumped on the FourSquare thing? Probably not. Too many next things, but you have to stay up. Try teaching a college class like I do. You have to stay ahead and still you can't.
What do you tell college students today? I'm in the process of figuring that out. If you watch cable business news channels for very long you will drink battery acid for lunch. You can get so down ... The music business is for sure in a change-over.
The concert business is making some people rich in Music City, but not everyone. Pop is for sure down 10 or more percent in every way from bus to stage rental.
Confusing times ... "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol" seem to have way too much attention paid to them. That should indicate people need to escape and made people need to cheer for something.
I still see radio PDs freaking out over PPM. What do the listeners want? A work in progress ... just like everything else.
"The Boys of Fall" documentary made by KC and ESPN is worth seeking out ... Great job firing up the promo pit for the Taylor Swift video reveal ... 160 countries ... whoa ...
The Opry getting back online at its normal HQ September 28th . Felt right to see the stage get back together.
A few random notes: Vince Gill free show at the Gulf Coast ... Sandestin, Sept 25th www.backtothebeach2010.com.
The Oak Ridge Boys went to the TV Pawn shop in Vegas this week ended up being on a future episode of "Pawn Stars."
The CMA noms are out this week. I hear the campaigning this year was big. Expect the labels to get their young acts in whatever category they can. Anything. The five New Artist nominees fought harder than the Entertainer of the Year. You don't have to win ... just get nominated for the PR advantage.
Septs 1st, the CMA Music Fest on ABC ... big deal for Country to get that much time ... it needs to rate well.
End of summer week ... out like a lamb ... Big hopes for the Fall ... Let's hope some positive vibes come back everywhere ... The summer was just tooooo damn HOT!
