Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Learned a long time ago to never write a memo when you are mad ... I'm mad right now, so here we go...
As a dad I promised to buy a Jonas Brother ticket for my 13-yearold ... I kept my promise, but 48 hours later I still feel ripped off....
Backing up... I always admired how Garth Brooks and his team managed his career. In his heyday, he never gouged his fans on the price of his tickets or T-shirts. Played multiple shows in a town to meet demand. He did it right!
With that said ... The people who are running the JONAS BROS are *********** ... (See, with age I can control my poison keys)...
The Team Jonas is gouging the prices for upcoming tour tickets. In the real world, allowing only the well-heeled to even have a chance to see these teen idols.
Okay, The Jonas Bros are sort of The Beatles for this generation of little girls (choke) ...They've lasted four-plus years, playing the world thanks to TV exposure.
STILL ... Guess there is no long-term thinking with teen idols. Or is there?
(The Rolling Stones and a few others still have their fans from the '60s.)
...BUT having a $247.50 ticket even be available is for a teen/pre-teen show feels wrong!
I paid $115.78 after having to join a fan club for another $30 that allowed me to have the privilege of buying tickets early. (Another unfair scheme that is on its face ... unfair) ... Who said life is fair? It isn't!
Still, I don't remember previous teen idols being so greedy. Greedy, but not this bad ... and in this economy?
Make up the money in concessions. Garth went for low hat/T-shirt prices and went for volume sales. Made tons and left his fans with a good taste in their mouths and billfolds.
I hope no one in Nashville is behind this Jonas Brothers pricing scheme. A fast buck while they are still hot. "Get it now while you can" thinking. Is that how you build a long career for these boys? I don't think so ... okay, they are teen idols ... get it while you can ... yuck
These kids ( Jonas Bros) are young ... you divide the ticket price in thirds for them to get paid ... Gouging their fans parents or keeping the poor kids out altogether is not the way to do this. McCartney would never have lasted this long if he pulled pricing stunts like this.
What is fair? Even $80 is high for a single ticket. But that is more in line. Maybe that's just the way the world is today ... still it doesn't feel right!
Maybe it just hurts a little more coming on top of what Nashville just went through with the flood. I've seen so much goodwill coming from many of the artists.
Greed is never good...
Summer tours are hitting the street. Check out the new Forbes with paydays for Country acts. A quarter-billion when you add Kenny, Taylor and Toby's paydays for 2009!
Huge money and mostly reasonable ticket prices..
Brad is out this weekend .... Sugarland ... McGraw ... Underwood ... on the road and ready to go.
The big festivals are advertising ... the big country show in Baton Rouge I hear has done well in pre-sales.
Concerts are such or can be such great memories. I remember so many of them like it was yesterday. Hendrix, Zeppelin, McCartney ... yes, MJ in London ... Beach Boys, Stones too many .. all great memories.
Just hate it that this generations fans can't afford to go see their stars. How much is too much to charge?
Can groups with a teen base fairly charge like the Eagles? I don't think so. Can they ... YES ... should they ... NO!
Garth did it right and made a fortune in the process. Greed is NOT good! Jonas people, shame on you! And yes, I did pay it but there wasn't much of a choice. I promised...
