What's Size Got To Do With It....

Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Little films with big results: Oscar weekend ... Country is going to win...in a round-about way. The Best Actor will be a part about a country singer, Crazy Heart, played by Jeff Bridges .... small film that did little business.
A Southern-fried wife who loves SEC football wins the Best Actress, Sandra Bulllock, in The Blind Side. A film that costs minimum for a major and grossed over $200 million!
Not sure what all this means, but size doesn't matter ... or does it?..
Try to figure out label size in relation to award shows is like trying to make sense out of CD sales or the lack of them.
The ACM nominations this week have been talked about and now written about a good bit. I talked about it on the radio Wednesday and saw it written about in at least one column. The same analysis with disputed outcomes. You can't make sense of some things.
Where was Jason Aldean? ... smaller label ... hot act. What politics or whatever circumstances are in place on this? Tim McGraw can't even make the top 8 in the Entertainer of the Year category? Rascal Flatts the same fate? Could those two have a bigger year on the national stage of film, TV, publicity?
It is simply odd ... Is it the game or the rules of the game? Depth of the bench? Or things just not going the way you think they should? Probably the latter.
It's not worth getting all worked up about it but on a positive vein, it was great for Miranda Lambert. These award things can give you a boost ... and also take the wind out of your sail.
I have to go back to the main point. These award shows are huge INFOMERCIALS -- an excuse to have the biggest stars on your network for a cheap price.
Is it how some play the game or don't play the game? Again, makes sense for a few but not for all ... The Aldean thing really does confound. The older acts you can see it. Maybe it's just premature in his case, but he seemed to have a great year.
The fan-voted aspect of some categories stimulates interest. Interest, conversation, it is all good. Remember the worst thing that can happen to your career is silence ... when no one cares what you are doing or not doing.
Run around in a circle ... get to the same place.
All I know is that Spring is trying to be here ... I'm going to Florida! At NASCAR in Atlanta, it was sunny but chilly ... still think country music misses the boat not working
NASCAR harder, but that is for another day....
Watched Brad last night in Greenville. That guy is at the top of his game. Look for some international interest in 2010 and that is long overdue.
As they found with Taylor and a few others ... growth is on the world stage. Start-up costs high, but potential is great if you have great music and artistry.
Where is Lady A going? Amazing what two songs can do for you! They are soooooooo hot right now! Well-deserved attention!
