Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Now you know why most radio stations don't give a fired employee a chance to pop off on air. This Conan/Leno business has been without precedent. Have you ever seen a decision process like the NBC one? How does that Zucker keep his job? Performance like his, even at a 500-watt daytimer, would get the guy fired! It's over now but is it just me, or is Jay Leno looking more like the past than the future? Could Conan have improved? Lots of questions with no for sure answers.
TV has been all over this Haiti story. Again, is it me? But has radio sort of done the story -- without any great enthusiasm?
A great performer and wonderful radio guest Charlie Daniels "feeling great" after his recent stroke. Go to his blog/soapbox at Charliedaniels.com to read it.
Grammy week in Los Angeles....Audition weeks slugs along at Hollywood. "Pants on the Ground" man has not received a penny for his song. Never published. He will still get SOME of that money.
Isn't it still hard to get a handle on the economy and how it will continue to be a HUGE issue in our broadcast lives? Just can't get a hold on it ... the big corporate broadcasters have been very quiet this first month of 2010. Too quiet for some. Nervous time.
One big Country artist told me that it was a scary time. I agree with him. Confidence. Key word is confidence or a lack of ... It all seems to pivot off that concept.
Big tornado scare in Huntsville Thursday ... bad weather in So Cal and Arizona. Radio stations live or die in how they cover weather. Screw up once, you've lost them. You must be there. And be accurate and dependable. Interactive ... it's a time when radio shines ... some people still don't get that..
Back to the situation in Haiti. Big and Rich's Big Kenny is in Haiti. Looking for a friend, Walter Ratterman. Google the name and read the story. Big Kenny is a good man!
The George Strait/Reba/Womack concert tour is about as good as a show lineup can be ... Chesney's thitd film sounds like it is going to be very interesting to see; April 21st is the premiere date.
Dierks Bentley working on new music for a little later in the year. Told him he was crazy for jumping in that icy water for his yearly polar bear stunt . Said the YouTube of that got more hits than one for the music.
Lonestar has new music out April 27th. Sony Music Nashville has signed 15-year-old Jordy Shellhart. Just put the name on the radar. He must be something!
