Maximum Pessimism

In 1988, I remember my boss at the time, Steve Berger, sending out a memo to the entire company talking about e-mail. At that time, before companywide e-mail systems, he was asking "Do you have an e-mail address yet?" He said the whole world was headed in that direction, and painted a picture about how everyone would be communicating by this thing called e-mail, where pictures, spreadsheets and information would be sent over long distances by computer ... from computer to computer, read up on the screen and then deleted or saved, whatever you chose. Few believed him.

Cell phones were just starting to take off and we were loving the fact that we could call anyone anywhere at anytime. We were still communicating by phone. If we needed to send a document, we would FAX it to the recipient, reproducing a PAPER copy at the other end of the phone line. What's this whole e-mail thing, anyway?

Twenty years later, his predictive capability turns out to be downright scary. Now retired, how did he know this in the 1980s?

ZIG VS ZAG

Last week we talked about the HERD here in Success Tips. The truly successful know that when something zigs, the leader always zags. What he was doing was seeing the herd and recognizing that a time was coming where the herd would shift. He simply was shifting ahead of the herd. It was brilliant.

This brings us to today.

When you see a zig, a particular direction that the herd is headed, look for where the ZAG will be, because it is coming up. By playing the Zag, you immensely help yourself and your operation in the process.

Today, most folks are PESSIMISTS on everything -- the economy, their lives, you name it. What does that mean? If the Zig is PESSIMISM, then the Zag will be OPTIMISM. When everyone is at the highest level of pessimism, that is when it will break to the UP side. If you can call that breaking point, you can become enormously successful in anything that you desire to do. When people finally get sick and tired of being sick and tired, things will change.

What you need to know is that what goes up must come down. Left must turn into right, day follows night, it all balances. So in your career, look for what everyone is doing, then do the OPPOSITE. Today, everyone is sitting around bemoaning how BAD it is. The Herd is focused on BAD. It's BAD as an industry, BAD as an economy, etc., but the part that the Herd MISSES is that it is now also GOOD. There are some amazing and incredible opportunities today, more so than at any time in our lives. They are all ZAG opportunities, or the ones that the mainstream population is not seeing yet.

If you can see them, if you can jump aboard, you will be a success. Watch the Herd. Then turn before they do, and enjoy incredible success. It doesn't take a lot; it simply takes you not falling in with the herd. Since you are a regular Success Tips reader, I am certain you don't fall into the "Herd" category ... at least very often.

Remember, when people are the MOST pessimistic, that is when the upside is about to begin.
