Carter in his homebase Nashville
It's August ... How does any performer get out on some stage with heat over 100 and have a good time? George Strait was on stage with a heat index in Houston way over 100 Saturday evening. Let me clear that up, inside it was a cool 70 with little humidity. George never broke a sweat.
Reliant Stadium was a joyful place for that George Strait show. $30 bucks to park seemed a bit high ( YOU THINK???????), but George's music live make you even forget about those bandits in the parking lot.
The "El Rey" song ... George did it about like the original. Wonder what the real Spanish singer of the song thinks? Get those two together ... That would be fun for Univision.
They taped the Strait show in Houston for something ... TBA.
Hey check the sales ... George 150,000 first week beats Michael Jackson. He is still the King. Speaking of bandits ... $435.00 for a "VIP" stand up ticket for Paul McCartney in Atlanta. Retail on Ticketmaster. Nope, not going to do that. I love Paul. I can't imagine going through all that it will take to go into that 'green' concert near downtown Atlanta.
The list of concert no no's from cameras to food to backpacks to anything park like is a long one for Sir Paul. The warnings also say specifically you can't bring in any wrenches or pliers. Hmm ... Wenches? Or Wrenches?
The concert business seems to be surviving this economy, while many folks are barely holding on. Maybe it's the have and have nots, not sure. No shortage of people in that stadium or the regular 30 buck a car parking lot. Southwest was full both ways.
I know money is tight at my house but sure seems to be flowing in lots of specific places.
Sugarland in concert was excellent ... Blake Shelton is at the top of his game. He needs far more recognition.
The CMA's are coming and nominations very soon. You have to wonder how the CMA voters will guide these awards. The top five 'Entertainer of the Year' nominees: Kenny of course ... Brad ... Ok ... Then what? Carrie and Taylor? You can not leave Taylor off this or you get and it's possible they may, a boat lot of bias. Taylors show has been the hot ticket of the year and she's the biggest CD seller. Keith the fifth ... Then who wins?
No way Taylor wins ... Not sure how in the world Carrie could win she's been off duty much of the year. Kenny again, I don't see that either. Too close to call in my crystal ball.
Brad on GAC at the White House ... Repeats a plenty next little bit ... His new video is sharp as always. Shot in Japan, NYC and DC. Welcome to the Future: Add another award to the showcase.
Les Paul and Chet Atkins did more to influence popular music post 1950 than anyone but Elvis. Take that and smoke it -- If they were here, I think John and George would agree with me -- The styles, the invention of the electric solid body guitar, multi track recording... Wow!
Speaking of Elvis ... 32 years Sunday Aug 16th since his death ... He was a human being, A real guy ... Famous but still human. A real study in contrasting fame: Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.
See that ... Vegas is getting Cirque du Soleil: Elvis?
Brooks & Dunn break up ... Didn't put that up high because I don't know what I think about it ... Is it time? I guess, but I think their music is still excellent ... Saw the show last year. As good as anyone's ... They made a lot of money. Did everything you can do. They are not 20 and they don't do AC/DC covers but they could. They do ZZ Top songs with ZZ Top. Everything has its end.
Alan Jackson in Europe ... Big water show in Alabama ...Good times for Alan Jackson. Hope he doesn't quit ... Hope George keeps going to ... Forever!
Reba week ... new CD ... Plenty of Reba everywhere ... Kellie Pickler and Craig Morgan back on USO Fall tour ... Congrats to both for doing that!
