Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Undefeated.
Then the morning after.
I am a Taylor Swift fan ... supporter ... advocate. I apologize in advance for those who may be offended. It seems a lot of noisy people are offended. The Internet blogs, comment pages, anywhere you can speak your mind, the Taylor haters have spoken and will not shut up.
The 6,000 CMA voters did the right thing. She was the most popular artist of the last year. No one is close. She deserved to win where she did.
The traditionalist have hated every new act since Elvis. The status quo. Every act who pushed the level got the same treatment. The haters never go away. Stay the course.
The radical fan club folks are another crowd. These Internet-savvy gang members hate everyone except for THEIR act. No one else is worthy.
Taylor is getting it double-barrel. She has disturbed the FORCE.
The change has been a bit radical ... The sweep took with it all the top acts of today, bar Brad Paisley. Add the very odd neglect of Rascal Flatts and you have a lot of popular acts on the MIA list. Still, the ratings were good. Best in years. So expect more of the same next year. Expect more pop singers and more Taylor!
I hope all this spew doesn't get on Taylor. She's done nothing but work hard. I don't think she's the best singer in any music, but I do think she is a master communicator for her generation.
The Internet is the wild west. For better or worse.
In the fatigue of the week, it almost got by, but more than a few have commented that the veterans got a short shirt on CMA night.
Yes, they had a few in decent seats. But Country music, led by Toby Keith, has been the standard bearer of veterans rights and care. USO shows, popular songs. On Veteran's Day, a few shout-outs and some dress uniforms. WEAK ... VERY weak!
So ... the CMA ratings were good. "The Blind Side" is an excellent movie and Tim McGraw is getting to be a better actor all the time. Taylor is catching grief for winning an award.
Much more next week. A lot going on in the music business and radio -- and not all of it is good ... Takeovers, etc. End of the year so hang on, folks who work at big business.
