Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville
This isn't about politics ... but short of a few years in the 1960s, does anyone remember a time when so many things were changing? And all at once, too!
From the fact that an Adam Lambert would be considered the all-American Idol ... to people not having landline home telephones, to many people not feeling the need to go to church. The list of social and technological changes is too long to list and too shocking to even look at in one long list.
A little change will do you good ... what about a lot of it? Radical and fast? It, at times, is like everything you knew before has been erased ... new rules, new order ... new way of doing things.
Has Music Row kept up with all these changes? People Magazine just left George Strait off the top-12 sexiest Country guy list ... are they in tune with the market place?
Is radio keeping up with the social and tech changes? I think so, to some degree. There has been such a lynching of staff that the technology can only do so much. With no marketing budget, how do you grow?
Local TV seems to really be struggling with this. Network TV like NBC is a mess. Network radio has some solid areas and some very weak. Paul Harvey leaving and talk show audiences with old demos don't help.
Lifestyles are so different than just 10 years ago.
Stress is off the scale with a lot of people and that doesn't seem to be slacking off, as people just try to keep their jobs.
Radio is still free; that can't hurt. Buying a CD, though, is not on my family budget right now.
Spending $50 on a movie with popcorn and one child in tow isn't on the list for many, either. That 2nd vacation with gas going up looks scary.
So many changes ... the social networking stuff f... is that something Music Row should be all over, or shrug the shoulders? Still can't get men over a certain age on Facebook. Women are there ... young people of both sexes are there. The record buying demo seems to be on it ...or working on getting there very soon.
I still hear ... heard it yesterday ... listening to I HEARTRADIO on my IPHONE ... still hear five and six-minute blocks of commercials! Who is their right mind sits through this unless you can not physically change channels? Wow, when the economy was good, it was bad ... it's still bad ... I can't sit through a six-minute stopset...
The music for the Summer of '09 seems to be very good for Country ... can't tell about pop yet. The Summer movie season is going to be very fun -- ,if anyone can afford the high ticket prices and mugging you get on concessions.
Sinatra the Movie? Scorsese ... Who gets to be Frank?
Ty Murray ... wouldnt you like to be his rep for commercials? Surely, this all-American bull rider/dancer is going to have some big offers for sponsorship.
Clint Black ... did he win or lose with his association to the Trumpste? That is to be seen.
Planning ... lots of festivals and concerts in the near future. Montgomery's Jubilee with Montgomery Gentry and Darius Rucker should be very good. BamaJam nearby should be, too.
The economy is everyone's wildcard. Gas prices. Concert tickets prices with all those ticket fees and parking. I don't know. Is everyone in tune with the rest of the band?
