When I See An Elephant Fly

Name that classic Disney movie? I will give you a second … This is FAN week in Nashville with CMA Fest happening now. I have indeed seen everything but an elephant fly over the years, with some things I still can’t talk about.
This year is a very different fan week. When the Riverfront Stage 10 a.m. show was filled up to capacity early, you knew something was up. The fans are out, and they are at CMA Fest, and everywhere else. Just get on the interstate going anywhere and see how full it is.
The movie was the 1941 film “Dumbo.”
I first saw Fan Fan in 1980 at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. It was like going to the county fair with all the booths, and packed with excitement.
Luke Combs held a fan club party Thursday (6/8) for 300 at the Wildhorse Saloon. He sang and signed just like the stars before him did. This is what the fan week is supposed to be about: the star meeting the fan and vice versa. This week was intended to be stars and fans, not a Whitman’s Sampler stadium show. It’s great that fans get to see so many stars, but it was not the event’s original intent.
One radio station chose this week to flip formats from Top 40 to ’80s and ’90s Country. “Y’all 106.7” kicked off with an in-studio visit from Randy Travis.
Is there an “it” person yet this year? Lainey Wilson is hot. Luke Combs, of course, is hot. Might have to wait on this verdict for a few more days.
Garth Brooks couldn’t let the week go by without doing something. He told media that he was NOT banning Bud Light at his soon-to-open downtown Nashville bar. All beers will be sold, so Garth has spoken!
Shania Twain had a huge show at the new Nashville soccer stadium, GEODIS Park. Reviews by the print press have been good. Others have not been so good. Google and see for yourself.
The encore at Shania’s show was pure Nashville, with Tanya Tucker and Wynonna Judd coming out on stage for “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” Maybe a little more singing and less dancing around.
Before Taylor Swift there was Shania. Shania has an excellent catalog. More singing, less hoopla.
Warm. But this week in Nashville always is. The original Fan Fair was in April, and all indoors. So much easier!
Morgan Wallen is absent from all this. On Instagram he indicated the islands were his playground. The doctors have cleared the voice, and all systems are a go for a June 22nd start back to touring.
Would CMA/ABC have uses the best selling Country star for this week’s festival if he was free? Hmmmmmmmmm.
