It’s an end of winter ritual that’s a combination of debutante ball and Greek Spring Fling: Country Radio Seminar. The gang coming to Nashville to see the new singers, and maybe have a cocktail or two.
It used to be a job fair of sorts when there were jobs a plenty. It is still a time for all kinds of announcements and debuts of signed acts preparing to unveil their new material.
Garth Brooks got things started announcing a rebooking of his rained-out Nashville stadium show on Saturday, April 16. Leave it to Garth to go first.
The Sam Hunt divorce story, followed by the recall of that divorce filing, had tongues wagging.
The next big thing in Country music is this award show on an app thing. Is Country radio going to help the Academy of Country Music (ACM) succeed in this effort?
The stars will be there, but will the fans go to Amazon Prime and watch the show? In the past, Country music fans were not the early adopters of technology. That’s the past. It’s one thing posting on Instagram and another watching a live award show from the app. Smart TVs have Prime, but how many people have it and use it?
Will Amazon hide the numbers when the show is done? Who knows? In a big picture, is radio going to help the ACM make the push?
Morgan Wallen is #1 with “Sand in My Boots,” his first #1 since November 2020.
Is he on the ACM show? These are the last places he must conquer. Wallen is on tour in coastal Georgia and in South Carolina this weekend. (A lot of questions this week.)
The most awarded band in Country history had an anniversary this week. Alabama, on February 23,1983, got their first Grammy Award for “Mountain Music.” The band is back on the road in late March, and they sound great!
The Tim McGraw and Faith Hill “1883” series on Paramount+ wraps up Sunday
(2/27) with episode 10. Best show on TV! How do they tie this season up? Will the arrow take a life? Love this show, and Tim/Faith have exceeded any expectation. Wow!
Now must watch that show early in the day Sunday because “American Idol” is back Sunday night (2/27) on ABC. The previews look great. They have removed a show point that was a distraction, and they are primed and pumped. Great track record, and no “The Voice” to compete with. The judges are comfortable with each other. Might be the best season yet!
