There are 60 days more of 2020, and who can even imagine how this crazy story ends? The next 30 days will be filled with votes and elections.
Maybe we find out who will be the next president on Tuesday. Then again, maybe we will not. Two of Nashville’s most well known artists, Taylor Swift and Maren Morris, have firmly planted their flags for the Democrat side. None of the other “A” listers chose to go public with their choices.
The CMAs, the AMAs and The People’s Choice awards will try to beat the trend of lower than usual award show ratings. The public seems less than enthusiastic about the trophy shows right now. Even the World Series got its lowest ratings ever.
Network TV is a victim of cord cutting and changes in viewing patterns.
All three major Country music award shows airing in a 60-day period has hurt an already troubled format.
The virus won’t let go, and Europe is shutting down again. 2021 is just over the horizon, and more than a few people are hoping after the Tuesday vote some things will clear up in Washington.
Gig workers need financial help, and that help has been caught up in partisan politics. The COVID drugs and rules to live by will hopefully get clearer once the political war reaches the end.
We sure didn’t need to see the passing of Jerry Jeff Walker and Billy Joe Shaver, two of the greatest ever Texas Country contributors. Both made a lot of Country music song history. They were unique. Both were originals in a world of copycats. Really, stop for a second and read the words to “Mr. Bojangles” and “I’m Just Am Old Chunk of Coal.” Those men were gifted, unique and, like John Prine, originals. They were three of the best tunesmiths to ever visit 16th Avenue, all leaving us in one year.
2020 also saw us lose Charlie Daniels, and his birthday was celebrated in the last few days. The bronze grave marker is now on. It features his favorite Bible passage from Psalms 91. Charlie was a very spiritual man, and how often in a media column do you get eight verses from the Bible? Maybe this is a good week to give them courtesy of Charlie. He wanted us to know Psalm 91, 1-8:
“We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods. This I declare, that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him. For he rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague. He will shield you with his wings! They will shelter you. His faithful promises are your armor. Now you don’t need to be afraid of the dark anymore, nor fear the dangers of the day; nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me. I will see how the wicked are punished, but I will not share it.”
Old Testament words to close down October of 2020. Full Moon Halloween is a 2020 bonus!
