I am sure we are still a long way from where we want to go, but this week was a start. There was football on television, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum reopened, and they’re letting people inside the Ryman Auditorium for live concerts.
We are about to experience a rash of award shows. The Academy of Country Music Awards makes its Nashville debut this coming week. Keith Urban is flying back from Australia to get back to work as the host. Brad Paisley flew to Hollywood, and with a crew of seven at ABC hosted the Jimmy Kimmel show. It’s all the start of kind of getting back to normal.
Had your flu shot yet? The fall looks to be an uncertain time. All those folks out of work because of the pandemic look like they’re going to stay out of work through the end of the year at least. Still no light at the end of that tunnel.
It was great to see Miranda Lambert get involved with helping people in the industry that need assistance paying their veterinary bills. A lot of folks in the music business are having trouble paying rent, and when their dog needs some big, special, expensive treatment, they’re having trouble meeting the bills. Miranda to the rescue. She’s all about music and mutts. Where to go for help: wagglefoundation.org/muttnation.
Hollywood often looks to Country music for inspiration. How about the George Jones and Tammy Wynette limited series television show on the way? Jessica Chastain has been signed to play Wynette. The part of Jones is still up in the air, but might be Josh Brolin. I’ve always heard that somebody was working on the George Jones bio film, but you don’t hear anything about that anymore.
And an $800 million settlement is in for the lawsuits revolving around the Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017. All the sides seem to agree there are over 4,000 complaints in this case. MGM Resorts is said to be paying $49 million, and the insurance companies paying the rest. Everybody gets $5,000. The families of the dead and the severely injured will get a lot more.
Tennessee Titans fans are pretty happy that their football team is playing again. The first game is on “Monday Night Football” in Denver, and there’s a lot of debate over whether fans will be allowed in the stands when the Titans come back home.
Things are not normal, and there’s no shortage of anxiety in the Nashville schools, with worries over being able to stay open and not be shut down by the virus.
Nashville’s lower Broadway streets are filling up on the weekends again. Can normal return? Stay tuned next week and see … As The World Turns!
