4a, the Nashville airport is running at full steam ... the food, TSA, curbside check-in, the works ... BNA is a 24/7 town in 2019. On the TV screens is Taylor Swift's meltdown from earlier in the week.
Been covering Music City in some way on TV and radio since 1980. Never seen a public blow up like this one.
The whole "who owns the Master recordings of an artist" is a source of constant pain. Still fresh in the headlines, the NYT investigation into the fire at Universal in California that destroyed many master tapes. Lawsuits from artists are flying after that disaster. Google that in case you missed it.
Taylor and Big Machine grew up together. The marriage soured at some point leading up to this week's ugly social media public disagreement .
Taylor vented online and the world sat up and said, "What's a master?"
I'm sure not going to delve into the merits of this dispute. The two teams have their own squads and at this point, the public part seems to be lost in the 4th fireworks.
We are in a "share your feelings" world and Taylor is on the point. Scott and Scooter will rock on and so will she. The Beatles and Stones all have their master stories to tell. Garth and Toby do, too.
Halfway through 2019 with Luke Combs in the driver's seat, but did you see George Strait and Blake Shelton leading the album sales and digital single sales? Most wouldn't guess that.
Off to Seattle and Alaska.
Will there be a Taylor meltdown, part 2?
