Trying To Sell Product Or Make A Great TV Show?
November 16, 2018
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. Is the CMA trying to make the best TV show possible or try to please the label lords? Ratings crashed this year for many reasons. While still the #1 show of the night and most-watched ABC show of the season, The CMAs should be an all hands on deck, Max star power project every year. All Country music stars should have those day locked on their calendars. No touring or anything else

For the CMAs and/or the PRO award shows celebrating the songwriters ... they are important in the big picture of everyone's career.
Radio, I would think, is all about pushing Country's biggest night. Les Moonves was so mad at losing the CMAs ... remember, CBS Radio people, the word that came down? The CMAs are an ABC event show and ABC reminds you that at every turn. They max out their control, hurting the effort to promote the show on all the other media outlets. Still, most just take the knife and do it (at least in Nashville) ... It's an industry event and like the Oscars and Grammys, should be unilaterally treated as such.
Everyone was smart to let radio simulcast the show ... very smart, but the show does not stream for TV. This is 2018; it must begin streaming so people can watch on phones or whatever. Now some of that is the West Coast delay. The CMA may never run live for the West Coast. LA/SF airing at 5p PT. Happens for the Oscars and that's about it.
Never seen so many artists happy about the Keith Urban win. Genuinely happy! Keith is a great entertainer. Luke Bryan seemed to be heading to that win, but maybe next year.
Social media has been abuzz with fans not liking some of the outcomes. Dan & Shay fans especially.
If anyone can say you picked 100% correct on this year's CMA, you should be in Vegas, buy a lottery ticket and play shorts on the stock market.
Radio might need to sit up straight of now. Album of the Year and Kasey Musgraves? Even Chris Stapleton ... and the under-roar from the female Country singers is getting louder.
This week's chart was a fluke ... maybe. Only two women in the top 30! Maren and Jennifer Nettles. Even in these times, that number is higher: LBT, Carrie, Miranda, Lady A, Kelsea are usually on a chart that's less than 10 in a max ... 30 % female on the best day of currents.
Just saying. The research says something and here we are. Is it the material? I think that is true for some of the strikes, but what is the deal with so few women on the radio?
Here we go into the Christmas season ... the charts slow down ... holiday music, etc. Garth has the Anthology out for Black Friday.... Happy Thanksgiving
