What Goes On In Vegas ...
October 26, 2018
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. Nashville and Vegas has a great history. Eddy Arnold was one of the first headliners hired by gambling icon and mob boss Benny Binion. Dolly, Johnny and so many have seen their names shine on those great Vegas neon signs. Elvis did his comeback there. Everyone has an opinion on this. It is where stars go when they are older. That may be true but you have to have a name to be invited. Vegas show bookers rarely take risks. Too much at stake

Lady A announced this week a Las Vegas residency. Fifteen dates in 2019 at the Palms Casino off the Strip on West Flamingo.
You can see the high rises from the Strip. Right now Blink 182 is in residence.
The Palms seems to cater to a younger crowd and some local types. Been there a few times but the hotel's website says it's the New Palms.
The Palms Theatre has chairs like a regular arena down front, 18 private boxes and overall 2,500 seats. Check out the hotel's website. Never heard a bad show in Vegas. The sound is always right.

Frank, Dean, Sammy, Lionel, GaGa, Elton, Celine, Shania, Reba, Garth, Tim and Faith all have played long running shows and all were great.
George Strait still doing shows there and even The Beatles did a famous stop in the glitter gulch.
Elvis actually failed in 1956 at the new Frontier. Too new. A rea flop for the King.
Back to Beatlemania. Vegas wasn't spared. Chaos. They stayed in suite 4722 and were hostages ... Teens had the place surrounded. Las Vegas Convention Center ... two shows each, 30 minutes long ... totally drowned out by screaming girls. They never returned.
The Beatles started the Vegas arena show ... (They were also first to play a stadium). 10/26 Luke Bryan wraps up his tour at Ford Field in Detroit. My, have things changed.
Nashville acts fill stadiums, Vegas showrooms and every imaginable venue in the world. From Swift and Brooks to Church, Aldean and Bryan. In 2018, massive NFL stadiums fill for Music Row-based artists.
Vegas is a place for stars to play. Established stars for the most part. During rodeo week in December, a few baby acts sneak in.
A few unknowns take the path of Lee Greenwood and shine their future Country career in the lounges.
Happy for Lady A taking the step. Just beware of the Vegas throat. Cash had it and many others.
Vegas Throat, from one of the tourist blogs:"Warning! Warning! Will Robinson. When you get to Vegas, expect to get Vegas throat. Your mucus membranes will dry out because of no humidity and air conditioning. That leaves your throat open to infection and you will get a nasty sore throat. This is known locally as Vegas throat."
Johnny Cash's folks had a humidifier at the base of his microphone stand. A tube running along the shaft. Sent out a nice mist while Johnny sang.
I saw that personally. Others have tried to do similar tricks. Vegas is the desert!
Country music historians could write a book on the Nashville/Vegas connection. The tragedy of the deadly festival to the days of Benny Binion hiring a crossover Country legend who was at times, the tux wearing "Tennessee Plowboy."
It's almost CMA Award time ... the tours are winding down and the 2019 dates are coming out almost daily.
Keep seeing the names Stapleton and Urban popping up from the C to C in the U.K. to the many festivals. Garth's stadium tours, Carrie's ambitious arenas tour. 2019 on the books is well underway on Music Row.
