Tim McGraw really had some of his fans going this week when he tweeted, "I need Jesus or I need whiskey!" The tweet was sent out at 2:26a so some loyal followers thought Tim had fallen off the wagon and was having to chose between booze or Jesus.
It was a publicity tease for new music on his new label Columbia Nashville. It accomplished its mission. It got people talking about Tim McGraw! He gave out a phone number, too, and that got folks really intrigued.
You were to text that number, then get a text back with instructions on how to set up McGrawOne. That's a "you get the info, first text message" thing.
The new music came out late week. "Neon Church" and "Thought About You." I personally love "Thought About You." Wishing Tim good luck with his new label and songs. Class act always! (And that was a very effective stunt.)
Vince Gill picked up some high paying work for 2019 already. The Eagles are set for Down Under in late Feb. and early March. Vince is an Eagle and I hope he has time to work and play. Five shows over a two-week period should be great ... jet lag and all!
See where Mumford & Sons are playing Nashville's Bridgestone March 22nd, 2019? I bet that arena will be filled with songwriters and artists wanting to see and hear this show.
Ronnie Milsap is working on a star-filled duets album. "A" list people with the Hall of Fame great! Can't wait to her Ronnie and Kasey Musgraves sing "There's No Getting Over Me."
You wonder if anything like this next project could be done with Nashville-recorded classics. Wouldn't you love to hear some mixes and isolations of the great made in BNA hits? Apple just released the Ultimate Imagine project with John Lennon's post-Beatle years' work. And Apple has reworked, remixed and polished The White Album.
Enough buzz ... now it's time to see what regular people say about A Star is Born. Nashville fingerprints are all over the soundtrack, so it's box office judgment day.
The weekend's very little Country American Music Awards Sunday night on ABC. Pop great and 16th Ave. graduate Taylor Swift will open the show and Carrie Underwood will get some time in the spotlight. Big salute to Aretha is expected.
College football, MLB playoffs, NFL, NASCAR finals will see a few Nashville stars in the National Anthem circle. Hardest public song to sing ever!
Keep a look-out for your favorites.
Brad Paisley at the L.A. Greek Theatre Saturday night, playing in an all-star band for the Will Ferrell charity. Members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Guns N Roses and Brad Paisley. That should be interesting...
Fall still feels like summer in Music City!
