CMT is doing their Artist of the Year show with an all-women tribute this time. First time in the show's eight-year history. Carrie, Kelsea, Miranda, Maren, the women of Little Big Town and Hillary Scott of Lady A are the honorees.
No women nominated in the CMA Entertainer of the Year this year. CMT making their statement in return.
As a father of three daughters and three granddaughters I'm up for the fight if there really is one.
Looking at my iTunes collection from Grace Slick to Loretta Lynn and from Dusty Springfield to Aretha, I can't imagine my musical history without the women.
Country's women are the building blocks of the format's history -- Patsy Cline, Loretta, Dolly, Tammy, Kitty and on and on. Nashville has not been afraid to sign females: Taylor, Faith, Trisha, Martina, Barbara Mandrell and on and on.
What is the problem? Someone needs to really figure this out. Are the women recording the right songs? Are the women consuming the music supporting the women singing it? Are the male listeners along for the ride?
Political correctness may keep the facts from view. The last time a consultant talked about this, he nearly lost his head. Really? Is it about the singers or the songs they are singing? Is it an age and demo thing? No one seems brave enough to speak on this subject. And even in private, I still don't hear anything that makes sense.
Good for CMT if it moves the meter. Fun show, no matter what.
Carrie Underwood's Today Show NYC street show cancelled by Hurricane Florence and the NBC coverage.
She will still have a big opening week that includes a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The American Music Award nominations are out and Country is not crossing over right now. Kane Brown got a lot of news with three nominations. Zero at the CMAs. And that point was cited by a few.
Willie Nelson singing for the Democratic U.S. Senate nominee in Texas. Some folks got wired up on social media about that. The fact that Willie leans Democrat is hardly shocking.
Hurricane Florence churning into the U.S. this weekend. Concerts and college football got out of the way early.
Tragedy struck Alan Jackson's family this week as his son-in-law passed away. Daughter Mattie Jackson's husband, Ben Selecman, died after an accident in Florida. He was 28.
We are heading into the Fall. It's still hot in Music City but there was a 59-degree overnight temperature this week. Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran were in town and took a walk in Percy Warner Park. Fall in Music City is usually very nice ... let's finish the year strong!
