Nashville the TV show is gone ... The powers-that-be in government are raising tax incentives so maybe that will happen.
Georgia is the new Hollywood, thanks to generous tax rebates for movie/TV creators. Billions of dollars generated and tons of decent paying jobs.
Nashville, the city, is now more than ever a tourism boomtown. Like Dallas, having a TV show with your city name in the title can be a very big deal. Nashville has tried to get someone to build a studio soundstage lot type-of place for years. Nashville sort of built one but Georgia is so far ahead of everyone in film infrastructure that the ship may have sailed. But it won't hurt to try.
Luke Bryan has the grand opening free concert Monday night 9/10 at his new honky-tonk on Lower Broadway. That will be crazy! Tourism and Country music are the engines for many full bank vaults.
ABC canned Nashville and CMT gave it a new lease on life. Now Netflix has given part-time Country singer Kiefer Sutherland a new lease for his cancelled TV show Designated Survivor.
Netflix, Apple Music, You Tube and Amazon Prime are shaking up the TV business. They are all continuing to shake up the movie business. The subscription model, a la carte versus buy all or nothing, is in vogue. Radio and traditional over-the-air broadcasting better get rid of that clutter or face destruction.
Commercials need to get better; people want information but not constant promotion for the station pet project.
New iPhones coming out next week. It's still very cool to have thousands of songs at my fingertips. So much rebooting needs to be done by everyone to keep up with the technology and styles.
Paul McCartney doing a free show to promote his new album on YouTube. He does late-night TV with Fallon and an equal dose of sat radio and social media. McCartney's people get it.
So great to see Dolly Parton as the Grammy's Musicare's Person Of The Year. Huge gala two nights before the Grammys in Los Angeles. Dolly is a great American musical treasure. It will be fascinating to see who will serenade her that night. Friday, February 8th and the L.A. Convention Center.
Miranda has Country music's Patron Saint of the rescue animal. Now she's adding cats to her mix at the Flying Pistols Farm in Tennessee. Jason Aldean raising money again for the children's hospital in his hometown of Macon.
Two big musical movies coming this Fall. Played the trailers for both at my Belmont University Music Business class. They all seemed to be excited about them: Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born.
The Star is Born soundtrack may have a Country music hit on it. How great would that be? "Evergreen" from the last Star is Born is an Oscar-winning classic. Lady GaGa having a Country hit? Stranger things have happened ... Both singing at the CMAs? How cool would that be?
Kane Brown just got an NFL cap endorsement and one from Amazon Music. There was plenty of reaction to the zero CMA nominations. Old people often don't get what young people like. A hard concept to be reminded of, but true.
And watercooler chat a plenty about the Nike ad campaign ... John Rich jumped right in ... Controversy sure gets your name in in the public domain. Let's see how this shakes out in a few days. Nike getting millions in free word of mouth and coverage.
Huge Colin Kaepernick Nike billboard springs up in SF's Union Square ... Rich all over Twitter and the mainstream media. The subject is a real hot potato.
Nike is real smart. They know their market. Rebellion is part of their brand DNA. Again, give this a week or so and let's see how this shakes out.
