I'm sure you heard that Best Buy is done with the compact disc. Vinyl is still on the shelves, but who knows for how long. Bad Internet connection or not, it's a download/streaming world. Or you do what everyone has done for a few generations, listen to free radio.
Alexa and other at home devices have been a great boom for in home radio listening even though the numbers are small. I know that's how I listen and I'm listening to more radio than ever. Changing stations is easier, too ... five to six-minute commercial breaks are impossible to endure. Same goes for TV. We are living in a Netflix world. Our tolerance for long commercial breaks is low. Someone really needs to invent something quick.
Haven't seen anything written anywhere but have you noticed the Summer tour schedule for Maren Morris? She started June in New Zealand and Australia ... then came back to the States for rather routine dates ... This is where she got my attention: July 4th, Santiago ... 6th, Buenos Aires ... July 8th, Rio then two nights, July 13th-14th in Mexico City ... back to the States with two nights at the Greek Theatre ... Never seen a Country-based singer do that. Steven Tyler with Aerosmith, Paul McCartney, Taylor Smith ... now Maren Morris. "The Middle" was a huge song ... she is having a huge 2018.
Tonight in Boston at Fenway Park, Luke Bryan. He's having a pretty fantastic year, too.
Willie had his 4th of July picnic as usual. Backstage his Willie Reserve bus was giving out coffee samples and playing Willie's New Frank Sinatra tribute album, "My Way."
Hank Jr. is out in the Summer air. Several dates with Lynyrd Skynyrd and two dates this weekend co headlining with Brad Paisley. Last week Brad began his Summer tour with Kane Brown. Singing with Kane one show ... Junior on another ... that's what you call variety!
Sure was a well-researched Washington Post story out recently on Country music's love affair with booze. It hit all the points from the sponsorships and songs. To the stars and their booze downfalls like Hank Sr and Keith Whitley.
Go Google it ... The article is called Sobering Truths by Emily Yahr ... Inside Country
Musics complex and lucrative love affair with alcohol. Important read!
Deep into Summer touring ... hot. The crews will all tell you about the heat. Nashville's 4th with Lady A and Chris Janson was the third hottest in history; 99 degrees with a 112-heat index. Those readings in the shade ... ouch! Coolest place on those days ... the stage ... big fans ... and most of our artists are in great shape. Boozing and heat ... not a good combination ... Plenty of fans treated by EMS at all those hot stadium shows this summer.
NFL preseason in less than a month....:)
