Heard that saying all my life ... so why bring it up? I'm finding it hard to say how I feel about this review in the LA Times of Garth Brooks' fantastic StageCoach show last weekend.
Print reviews of many things have mostly been on my ignore list for decades. Rotten Tomatoes at least gets multiple opinions and you average out...
This LA Times pop critic writer and headline writer said Garth's show was as old fashioned as his Dad Jeans. Clearly the writer should stick to covering Beyonce shows. He compared Garth to Beyonce's "unique" show ... anyway, it's a disease sweeping the country.
Many of a certain age group think anything old is bad. How did we get to this? Growing up in the '60s I didn't hate Elvis or the Big Bands of my mom's generation. Today it's a rebellion against anything old. It's now Kardashians 24/7 on E! No more E! True Hollywood Stories ... The viewers only want spontaneous consumption.
Back to the clothes ... from Psychology Today:
It's been well-established -- in the scientific literature and real life -- that what we wear affects how others perceive us. Women who wear more masculine clothes to an interview (such as a dress suit) are more likely to be hired. People dressed conservatively are perceived as self-controlled and reliable, while those wearing more daring clothing are viewed as more attractive and individualistic
As the Music Row talent brains dress the new stars of today, making sure they don't wear Dad jeans, you don't see many dressed like you would assume "Country" stars to dress like.
From Madonna retro to Boy George, you see a little bit of everything from the baby acts. What is the correct answer? Who knows ... your stage "costume" is just that ... but the clothes will help the world decide what they think of you. And there is always the "hat" versus "no hat" debate ... The white coat identifies a doctor ... the cowboy hat says what? I will let you all answer that...
Keith Urban selling over 100,000 copies of his Graffiti U album makes him debut #1 Country and Pop. He worked hard, selling this project.
The NHL marketing of Music City I'm sure is required study for sport marketing people. Winning helps but even before the last two years, hockey was a growing sport. We don't even have frozen ponds for more than a few weeks a year. An alien to the South sport has been fully adopted. It's impressive.
CMA festival week is on the horizon ... we know Blake will be here for several events ... Garth has a big announcement ... It's May 3rd and in the '80s today ... what will it be a month from now ... OUCH!
