From Music City gas prices to charity fundraisers, everyone around here is tuned in and tuned up by all the acts of nature in full force.
Fires in the West, Hurricanes in the South all the attention of the country is on these emergency situations.
Harvey's misery is widespread around Texas. On September 12th, the entertainment industry will try to raise a lot of money to help. George Strait's Majestic Theatre event sold out in minutes and will be a part of the national TV event. George said he felt helpless watching all the coverage and wanted to help.
As Texans clean up from Harvey, concerts are still seeing cancellations. Eric Church called off his Texas shows, but the pro baseball and football games are back up to speed.
While money for Harvey victims is being raised, BOOOOM! Irma appears. As I write this, it will still unclear where Irma was going.
Tim and Faith have a beautiful home in The Bahamas and we all know of Kenny Chesney's island relations. Irma could cause cancellations of shows later in the September calendar but it's still too early to tell.
The Country music family will step up as they always do at times like this.
While all the natural disasters play out it is award season. The CMA nominations were not especially surprising. A few snubs got national media attention, but overall not that many shocks.
Whether it's true or fake news, what is the deal with Jason Aldean? That one omission seemed to get a lot of blowback. He wins Entertainer of the Year at the ACMs and can't get a nomination at the CMAs. You have to admit that is strange.
Eric Church has a huge push behind his nominations. A new live album to go along with his nominations. If Garth didn't exist, Eric would be a shoo-in. How do you beat Garth in that category? Garth is the best entertainer in the format. Hands down! But in this highly political award show, the power of the label can't be underestimated.
Miranda had the most nominations and it feels like a big night for her ahead. Miranda has great PR and her charity work with Harvey has been great! Her team seems to be doing everything right.
Had to predict the voters as the push for non-Bro country artists is significant. Notice this week: CMT Artists of the Year are Luke, Jason, Chris, Keith and Florida Georgia Line. No FGL in CMA nominations ... Hmmmm ... Jason Isbell with the Best Album? That is this year's Chris Stapleton delegation shout-out.
Radio and the CMA voters don't seem to be in sync. Artists with no hit singles at the top of the award stack. Radio not playing a lot of female solo artists while the stack of dudes is high enough to fall over.
It's hard to get in the mud with award shows with so much hurricane misery around, but it's there for the discussion. I know the Aldean thing confuses many Country music fans.
Prayers and positive thoughts go out to Jo Dee Messina dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
We sure need a little good news! Blake Shelton's new song title is a fun one ... "I'll Name The Dogs." Song debuts 9/8; the name alone demands your attention.
