Well, here's an idea that I have a never seen before ... A Country music festival in the city of Miami with free tequila on tap. According to the Miami Herald, the Tequila Bay Country Music Festival will have free tequila on tap.
That sounds like a great idea, but from where I come from in Alabama, that might be the worst idea I've ever heard. Brantley Gilbert, Kip Moore, Montgomery Gentry, and many more will be playing at the iconic Miami Marine Stadium. If you go back that far, that's where Flipper used to hang out!
That says a lot about Country music if they're trying to get into the city of Miami now ... I was there many years ago with Conway Twitty at the Civic Center, where Jackie Gleason used to do his show ... Country music was a pretty alien product.
In the panhandle of Florida, there is more Country music this weekend, the Gulf Coast Jam. Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, among the stars playing this three-day festival. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate with the Gulf Coast Jam. Booking anything outdoors during hurricane season in Florida can be iffy. Looking 10 days out, there is a chance that Hurricane Irma will be making a visit.
Hurricane Harvey ... what can be said that hasn't already been said? As a former Houstonian it is very difficult to wrap your arms around the extentt of this tragedy. Over $100 billion in damage, over 100,000 houses damaged or destroyed.
The disaster has been handled well by the government so far and the people have really joined hands to help. Bank accounts seem to be wide-open with million-dollar checks being written by dozens of corporate and personal benefactors.
This is going to be a very long journey. And the music community will be stepping up more than a few times. It was just last night that Nashville got a taste of 2010 and the great Nashville flood. The city got nine inches of rain; even communities like Bellmeade had problems and several cars were ruined.
Hurricanes, football season, the start of school, the beginning of the fourth quarter in finances. Fall is always a busy and sometimes chaotic time.
Already plans are well underway for 2018. Look at what happened today: Eric Church put out a new product, 61 Days In Church, it is going to be very interesting on Monday with the CMA final nominations are released.
Just a note to the CMA: In the future, most radio stations are off-duty on Labor Day. A huge opportunity was missed; all the excitement of the release only having it on ABC TV and social media.
The Grammys the Oscars would never put something out on a national holiday you just blow the whole idea of broadcast publicity. Oh well.
