November 13th, 2015 ... Friday the 13th ... coordinated terrorist attacks shock the City of Light. Paris was shocked but days, weeks, months pass and people are back in the stadiums, arenas and even the Bataclan Theatre. At the time, you heard some security buzz from Country Mmusic factions, but that seemed to slip away with time.
Security costs money. You either raise ticket prices or cut profits. Neither choice desirable. Security is stronger after every event. The stadium shows all have a long list of rules. The arenas do, too. They are still far too many soft targets. This week the bad guys outsmarted everyone again.
Blowing up fans as they exit ... security focused on helping people get out didn't focus on someone trying to get in. The ball was dropped and people died.
Now what ... How do you harden the areas around the exit points? Visible armed security. Police cars with lights on. The security pros have a plan; the artist and promoter just need to listen. The Manchester U.K. mass murder was another game changer.
Multiple Country artists have been in Europe this year and are going back in the few next weeks/months. It is really important now to have an artist security plan ... an escape/shelter in place plan/agreed-upon meeting place plan and a fan security coordination plan.
The police in Europe are going to be hyper-aware of their territory. It's the artist/band/crew who need a safety plan. Just imagine if this scenario happened to you ... what would happen?
No one wants to think about these unpleasant things but lives depend on everyone thinking about them.
Everyone knows now that Nashville has a hockey team and they are good ... so good, now it's the Stanley Cup finals. They will run before and during the CMA Music Fest, but should not disrupt a bunch. The city will be thinking hockey and it may affect the local news coverage.
Now the important question: Who will sing the national anthem in these final games? Will the Preds repeat singers or go higher?
The Voice crowned a winner -- Tennessean Chris Blue. He's not Country ... the runner-up, Lauren Duski, is. Will we being seeing her in BNA soon?
American Idol making behind-the-scenes moves ... judges, host, etc. $25 million for Katy Perry ... really? That can't be a real figure! $15 million was the high end when the show was at Fox. $25 million ... don't believe it. Disney is too cheap. So will Carrie or another Country artist get signed? Remember, personality is required. Not just name and star power. Kesha wasn't so hot on ABC's Rising Star. Idol can't afford to make any mistakes. The show is wounded going in. It does feel like the show is coming back too soon!
Pushing the envelope farther and farther away from recognizable Country music. Maybe it has always been like this ... The first drum set used in Country. Horns ... you name it ... shock after shock. Now we move on into more uncharted territory.
CMT awards will feature collaborations ... like the Grammys ... Earth,Wind and Fire with Lady A ... The Chainsmokers with FGL ... Carrie and Keith Urban together ... that's a normal one.
Nothing so rare ... but MTVs Country cousin does throw a wild party. The show was moved out of the arena due to hockey. Hockey rules in Music City right now!
