When Music Moves You…
March 24, 2017
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. Just heard Tim and Faith’s new song, “Speak To A Girl.” I have so missed her voice! That is such a strong performance from both. I knew this first song out of the box, pre-tour,would be good, but it’s a WOW. This song will be so in demand. So wonderful when music is so good you are moved emotionally. Doesn’t happen often enough.

Heard new songs from another superstar this week. We have some amazing music coming out of this town. Not all of it is formula “Bro Country” stuff. That is fine for a portion of it to be that way, but sonically this town is so much more than that. Radio needs to find a way to be more diverse while still getting what they think they want. People do have choices!!\
I’m fresh from a just off Music Row luxurious stay at the legendary Vanderbilt Hospital/Cardiac Care Unit. Plenty of time to ponder your own fate and that of others while hooked up to heart monitors. Like Willie Nelson … “Still Not Dead!”
The tabloids keep recycling Willie death stories and in this case, I know he is alive and very well. The tabloids have killed Loretta and used to kill Tammy. I don’t get it, other than it gets clicks or in those days, retail sales.
As for me, very sobering when you have never had any heart trouble and you have some. I’m not a songwriter but you sure do think of song titles and ideas while watching life inside the emergency room.
Songwriters: Go sit in Vandy ER waiting room and just watch and listen. You will see life pour out in front of you. You will write for days!
The Country music guessing game time is here ... involves the announcement of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Just start on that topic for a rousing dinner discussion. Who’s not in especially. It is crazy that John Denver, Johnny Horton, Hank Williams, Jr., Johnny Paycheck, Dottie West, for starters.
Did you know Chuck Berry was in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame? His lyrics were Country and his music was blues/R&B. Marty Robbins, Jim & Jesse, Johnny Paycheck all scored with Chuck’s “Maybellene.”Country as grits!!
As I was motorvatin' over the hill
I saw Maybellene in a Coupe de Ville
A Cadillac a-rollin' on the open road
Nothin' will outrun my V8 Ford
The Cadillac doin' about ninety-five
She's bumper to bumper, rollin' side by side
Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh Maybellene, why can't you be true?
You done started back doin' the things you used to doCountry lyrics with a soul/blues beat … thus Rock and Roll.
You hear these great songs. You hear some album cuts from today’s Country artists. You wonder where today’s Country will go down in the history books. Is it memorable as a whole? Is the Pop of today any more memorable? I don’t have to answer that.
ACMs … seen the CBS promos? I have ... Noticed the lack of any Country music in the promos … let’s see if that changes as we get closer. CBS is not a young skewing demo on a normal night. They are promoting like this is a “blow out teen night at the prom.” Maybe it is.
