It's that time of year. Time to get everyone stirred up about The CMA Awards.
First ... Can someone please fix the Best New Artist Award? It is simply not right for an artist to get the nomination then a year or two later get the Best New Artist nomination again. Cole and Kelsea are the latest and many have said that is not cool! The Horizon Award was often ridiculous with artists who were not at all new getting a nomination. You get nominated one time, win or lose.
The Best Radio awards. How many actually turn in entry forms for this? It feels like the same people are in it all the time. Maybe that concept should be rethought.
The omission of several of the most popular artists raised eyebrows, too. Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney are huge omissions. All three are legitimate Entertainer of the Year nominees. I know it's all about timing, momentum, etc., but explain that to the public.
Vince once sang it, "Everybody's talkin' 'bout the next big thing...
Articles come out about the snubs ... The Bros sure seemed to be getting the cold shoulder. List of Bros sitting out the big dance is large. Chris Stapleton has been cast as the Bro Killer. Not sure he has accepted that role, but the bros don't seemed to be going anywhere.
This should be a great show with old friends celebrating 50 years of CMAs.
The Sugarland Effect. That is when you have a festival or outdoor should and you cancel because of potential storm issues.
Hurricane Hermine took out the Gulf Coast Jam with Panama City, FL. 8a Thursday the Sheriff said all systems were go. The storm was upgraded and the cancel order went out.
Buses re-routed, hotel rooms cancelled, insurance man called, staffing cancelled. Big logistical mess. Since the Sugarland stage collapse, all parties at a concert site are very nervous about the wind. As they should be. Haven't seen an outdoor stage that doesn't have a machine that measures wind speed.
Nashville the TV show has returned for Season 5. The show will premiere in January on CMT. Hopefully CMT will be a better influence than ABC.
The award shows are showcases these days for new talent. That's okay ... just hope there is an approach to stop the execution on radio of established acts. How can you vote for an act that is barely out of the box and ignore acts selling out football stadiums with #1 songs a plenty?
Sometimes this town makes very little sense.
