Does anybody really care, so the great Chicago classic goes ... Feel the same way these days about "Country" music...
Saw a talented "pop/country" duo Dan & Shay this week. They have a hot rocking band and they have vocal power. On record you don't hear the heat so much, but you do in person. They are very talented ... The best song of the day, though, was the impossible-to-cover Journey classic, "Anyway You Want It"...They knocked it out of the park. Don't know of any other Nashville group that would try it, much less pull it off.
So there ... What is Country in 2016? ... If it is one big tent, so be it...The rocker influence is growing. Merle and George seem like extremes ... Chris Stapleton's wing of the party is still in formation and too early to tell. So far no real effect on the radio playlist.
You have a Britney Spears wannabees, acts that would be Hall & Oates 25 years ago and Rock Hall of Famers going for a Country hit ... Heard the Oak Ridge Boys singing a great version of "Rambin' Man"/Allman Brothers this week ... Classic Rock and Country in 2016 are adjoined! The playlist issue ... Is it corporate radio pushing this over pop country? Or are they just too far in bed with the labels still searching for the next Taylor Swift? Or does anybody really care?
Ever been to a Bernie Sanders political rally? I did that this week ... Can't even begin to describe how interesting a crowd that was ... 2016 meets 1968 ... the energy and passion is fascinating ...
Randy Houser's music video shoot with the Trans Am and the cops shooting in downtown Nashville got a lot of play ... We want video ... now that the song is #1. Videos used to be made too early promote the song ... Now they are creative after they are # 1 ... It is hard to write a playbook when the rules keep changing.
Opry putting a theme restaurant in Times Square. Sounds risky but very exciting ... with 40 million going through a year ... The Italians may finally start to get the Country fever ...
