Hard to find a bigger whipping boy than the Grammys ... Seems like almost anyone could make a better show ... do it more flawlessly than the people doing it. Fifty-eight times at bat and the ERA depends on the year you look.
It is the impossible task ... You are as good as the year's music really. Not all your stars make music up for award consideration. So you are stuck with 83 categories -- and only a few have any TV appeal of a mass nature. Musicians are most interesting when they are making music, so that is what the Grammys mostly do. Talking seem to get them in trouble or it puts the rest of us to sleep. Not everyone or anyone is a charismatic evergreen Stevie Wonder.
The better the music ... the better the Grammys! The tributes are right now the highlights. Or they were this year. The forced Grammy moments don't always work, but are still fun to watch unfold. Lighten up, folks, on this show ... The Grammys are not as good as you want, but better than you think.
The jury was mixed on Carrie and Sam ... chemistry per LA Times ... Jury seemed to like the BB King tribute with Chris Stapleton. Luke in the Lionel tribute survived. Some reviewers compared that segment to cruise ship entertainment. I liked it ... Demi can SING and John Legend is a great talent. It was okay all around.
It is so hard to put this train on the tracks with so many issues, such as dropped Adele piano mikes and Rhianna bronchitis in late rehearsals. It is mission impossible. Politics and more politics on who gets to sing ... where they sing ... what they sing. Politics, censorship, you name it. Back off the Grammys. It's one thing to do the CMAs, but something altogether different doing a monster like the Grammy's
Chris Stapleton took his win over to the Jimmy Kimmel two nights later and played a nice song. Bigger and better were his comedic skills in the monologue. Chris Sings The Words You Hate. Watch those numbers grow on YouTube. Chris is as dry as the Mojave Desert, but that was spit-laugh funny. You saw another side of this great success story in the making. Kimmel will turn out to be a very good risk/reward booking.
Mr. Stapleton's concert schedule reflects his heat. Go look! From Coachella to Daytona ... from The Greek Theatre to ATT Stadium in Dallas with Luke Bryan. It has Europe and Hank Jr and now he just needs a big hit record. I'm sure that is in the works ... Never seen anything like this.
Luke Bryan's year is all lined up. New cash drawer in the register and away he goes. He has worked hard and what a year he is set to have. The biggest tour of the year ... probably. Again, Luke has worked hard and is reaping the rewards.
Another happy moment of the week. First #1 for Granger Smith. "Backroad Song" made it to the top with his new CD March 4th called Remington. Big national TV dates, too. It's getting crowded at the top!
As the City of Nashville explodes with 2.4 billion in 2014-15 building permits, the downtown country club museum business is going crazy, too.
The Country Music Hall of Fame is going strong and now The Johnny Cash Museum has expanded as they had hope to do. Feb 26th-27th a Cash Birthday Bash and opening of the new wing. New nightclubs are announced and are coming. Lower Broadway is about to be even bigger. Dierk's has one club on the way ... John Rich has one already. If only some more hotels would hurry up. Go check out the average hotel rate for downtown. It is out of sight! And parking ... jeez.
Grammys gone ... Daytona this weekend, then the Oscars. Spring Break is about to spill open.
