A Stressful Music City Week

A homeless man terrorizes a Nashville movie theatre, an unpredictable Mayoral election, the deaths of super '70s agent Tandy Rice, The death of the first Country female to sell out Madison Square Garden, death of the greatest steel guitarist Buddy Emmons and the death of legendary producer/arranger/songwriter Billy Sherrill ... and a humid, hot Summer like few others. It was not a pleasant week.

Hollywood is getting freaked by the movie theatre violence. Not usual to find a Country star in those midday or midnight movie seats. Adding expenses to a movie is not a desirable outcome. Watching the fan reach out for Taylor Swift this week in Edmonton, Alberta concert is a reminder about concert security. Taylor gave a look to kill after this unknown dude grabbed for her ankle while she was out onstage.

Sometimes off-duty cops guard movie theatres; that is going to become more commonplace. Plenty of cops were at concerts in the parking lot and there's usually private security in the venue, but in this crazy world is even that isn't enough. It's just an unpleasant conversation but one that needs to be done.

A homeless person at a Nashville concert recently slapped a TV photographer in the face, then ran away; there was no security at the time. It is getting to be more and more concerning when you go out to the downtown area.

Luke Bryan is taking on New York City right now as he unveils his brand-new album. The folks at Luke Bryan's label using every tool possible to get him publicity this opening week for the album -- morning television, a streaming concert on Yahoo, the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon ... a new Facebook app involved, too. Extra songs on that album at Target ... using all the tricks I think he'll have a big first week.

The battle for Entertainer of the Year is going to be a fierce one this year. If things are fair, it will certainly be Luke Bryan; it should be Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney; and then the other two I'm not sure. The nominations are a month away.

The newest amphitheater in downtown Nashville is a big hit. Live Nation runs it and the city of Nashville owns it. The wide range of talent on display has been very popular; now if only the weather would cooperate and make some cool nights and not this humid blanket that's been over the city for a month.

Big weekend on the road. Kenny Chesney's in Denver at Mile High, Brad Paisley's in Canada and New Hampshire, Tim McGraw in Chicago and my favorite at Sturgis motorcycle festival Def Leppard and the Kentucky headhunters.
