Riley BB King was a humble man. One of the most famous guitarists in the world. BB put down his beloved Lucille a year or so ago. He said good bye to us on social media a few days ago. He was not Country, but find "Nightlife with BB and Willie live," and you will see nontraditional Country at its finest. BB was 89 and as it is said, his music will live in forever.
Going to be very sad watching David Letterman ride off into the sunset. Wednesday night is the last show. Passing the torch to Stephen Colbert. Excellent feature on Dave in the current Rolling Stone. Complicated man, maybe even more complicated than his hero Carson. Doing the Letterman show was always a thrill for Country acts but none really saw very much of Dave. Rare when you did. Even if you get time at the interview chair not a lot of non-on-air chitchat. Loved him, though.
The George Jones biographical movie is moving forward. Nancy and the other producers have hired a screenwriter. Alan Wenkus just wrote the film, "Straight out of Compton." Let's see if you can turn that gangsta George Jones into some kind of screen hero. George Jones was the bigger-than-life star and had one crazy life. The greatest Country singer of all time; I hope they make a good movie with lots of music. George Jones was rough around the edges. Someone suggested Bryan Cranston should audition for it ... at least that's in the right direction. Movies take a long time to make. Stay tuned.
What can be said that hasn't already been said about American Idol? The show has run out of gas. It was hard to watch the finale this year. The 8.6 million audience is a far cry from the nearly 40 million people who watched the show in past years. If they can pull a Country star out of this year's pack, it will be a miracle --- but I believe in miracles.
Summer is upon us if you live in Montana maybe not yet but for the rest of us summer is here and the tour season has begun. Made a list yet of who you want to see? Do we want to pay the big bucks and see the Rolling Stones? Undecided. I do wish I could go to The Who show in Nashville Monday night ... sounds like that was really good ... better than the reviews.
If you want to see a brilliant video, look at Brad Paisley's new animated video for his already hit song, "Crushin' It." Created on his laptop in three weeks of hard work. It is very funny! Turning today's Country stars into animated Avenger-like characters. Find it on YouTube. Money-back guarantee.
I think I'm going to stay out of the Steven Tyler affair. If Kid Rock and have a big hit Country record, then Steven Tyler should be able to have one, too. The version on Idol was pretty rocky, but the recorded song is much more tame. I guess you put it on and let the listeners decide ... what a concept!
