The year is a one-third over and hasn't this been a rather "spin the tires" year ... so far? Let's see ... "Girl Crush" seems to be the song with the most buzz this year. Little Big Town has worked so hard to get where they are .,. Can't imagine how anyone could not like them personally. Good guys do win sometimes in show business,..
Tim McGraw seems to be on TV a lot these days. Zac Brown has done a media blitz for his new CD that is musically a kaleidoscope. That is one talented bunch of musicians with a unique style. Hard to pin them down to just Country and that's the way they like it.
Make sure you make it a point to visit the George Jones museum/restaurant/bar. This has been a surprise bright spot in the ever-growing tourism universe in downtown Nashville. The more you think about it, can you imagine any of today's artist's getting that kind of treatment in 2030? George Jones was the Country Elvis. One-of-a-kind star with a lot of story and color. His 2nd Avenue home is just cool. Just like Jones was. Downtown Nashville for a Country tourist fan is over the top.
One 2015 highlight that keeps coming up is the gigantic Texas-sized ACM show. It was crazy big ... and remember that duet's show is coming up on CBS in mid-May. It was Country's biggest event and will be hard, if not impossible, to top ... Seeing Randy Travis stand up is burned in my mind.
So far though no real breakout act or movement or trend. Plenty of young girl singers in the pipeline and some very traditional sounding guys, but nothing seems to be clicking in ...yet ...
Then there is the bon voyage of David Letterman and bye bye Jon Stewart. 2015 right now is remembered by goodbyes, cold weather and trouble in Baltimore.
Let's hope this year picks up some positive momentum soon. The country and Country music seems a little in need of a pep pill. No water in California. No place to park in downtown Nashville, though the city does have a pop-up amphitheater that just seems to appear. Curious how all this, including the new baseball park, works into the mix.
Garth Brooks keeps making news with each city that he takes on. Houston in late June may be the biggest stop yet. The beginning of major tour season may pick things up soon. This weekend Chesney and Aldean join forces near San Francisco. On paper, that show looks successful.
Stagecoach might be big on the West Coast, but got little to no coverage east of the Petrified Forest.
Nashville's renewal dance is underway. The ABC-TV show has been a good thing for the tourism and Big Machine says it's sold four million tracks. I don't remember a hit song birthed by the show, but the music sells to the TV show fans. All is good in fictional Nashville.
The Voice and American Idol are headed to the finale. Any real excitement over these shows this season? No Country stars coming from Idol this time, that's for sure. The Voice has not been lucky, trying to spin the TV show fame into radio stardom. That has always been a head-scratcher; these singers are already well known and no one can find a hit record for them to sing. Very odd.
Hope the weather is kind to all the festivals coming up this Summer! The one in Dothan called Toadlick got zapped again. Lost one day of the 3. Outdoors is risky business.
So we need an energy drink and some extended sunshine with a reduced pollen count ... You California people just be glad you don't have suffer Pine Tree and Oak Tree pollen.
The music business needs a Beatle or Brooks or even a Bieber. Come on ... something to get the fans excited. Breakout time!
