Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville
Look ahead to the next 365 for Country music. It is shaping up to be historic. First, CMA Week 2014 ... The event gets bigger every year. ABC seems to do more promotion every year. Disney does know how to do synergy.
Not sure what the show will feel like this year. The diversity of music might work for radio, but let's see what it feels like on TV. Will they go for a whole new "Bro" audience, or try to hold on to the more traditional folks? I bet they work both sides of the fence. Early time slot "Bro" and later not-so-"Bro"... tricky producing. Always a very exciting night, no matter how the music rolls.
Who will get the big publicity shot from the show ... will it be the Miranda/Luke show or something else? How will the ever-evolving CMA membership vote? Conservative or forward reaching? George or another choice for EOY? Country's biggest night of 2014, but next year the 50th anniversary ACM show at Jerry's World in Dallas, which will be Texas-sized!
Speaking of big ... nobody does big better than NYC. The Big Apple will get its first Country music festival next June. No shortage of fans in the greater New York area for shows like they plan. Brad, Luke and Dierks headline ... excellent choices ... It will be no Garth and the million in Central Park. I was there and that was crazy. This will be something a lot more normal.
Farmborough ... an interesting name. Country leadership loves the farm name ... Farm Tour, Farm Aid, Farmborough. Down on the Farm June 2015 Randall's Island, in between two rivers and across the street from the NYFD Fire training center. I'm going ... Can't wait.
Farmborough co-headliner Brad Paisley is an unpredictable artist. Showing up on Jon Stewart's daily show this week with a video you must see. The State of Texas, on Comedy Central's YouTube channel, on ESPN Gameday picking football in his home state, no way he will miss a chance to be on Jimmy Kimmel's post-CMA show, on with Carrie at Late Night with Seth Meyer, he just seems natural wherever he's booked. Would love to see him tour with Carrie someday ... such a natural combination. Co-headliner ,would be huge. Fun for the fans, too...
Taylor Swift may be pop, but she is still on Country radio at times. Her new album got a push like none other this past week. Over a million in sales and ABC closing streets in NYC and LA to make her appearances gigantic. Watch the crowd at GMA. Amazing career! Amazing sales!
Garth Brooks keeping his PR machine rolling, too. Next city Little Rock and a sneak preview of his new CD on Ghosttunes.com on Halloween. Nobody does it better.
Luke Bryan, no matter how the CMAs turn out, had a remarkable 2014 ... 1.7 million attending his shows. A bunch of other accomplishments. Luke goes into 2015 as the top guy!
Country music is all over the road right now. 2015 is set up to be huge. Check out the advance tours and events. May be Country music's biggest year ever. I think it might easily be County music's biggest year ever.
